This Sunday we will gather to worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and look intently into His Word together! We will now be embarking into a new section in Genesis - the story of Joseph, who is Jacob's youngest son. This will be the dominant theme througout the rest of the book. Starting in Genesis 37, we are introduced to Joseph as his father Jacob favors him above all his sons and gives him a special robe. Because of this, jealousy and hatred festers among the family. Joseph tells his family about his recurring dream of his brothers bowing down before him, which only increases their jealousy. When Joseph visits his brothers in the fields, they throw him into a pit and sell him into slavery on the way to Egypt. They deceive Jacob by staining Joseph’s robe with blood, leading him to believe Joseph has been killed. The chapter highlights human sin, family betrayal, and God’s hidden providence beginning to unfold through Joseph’s suffering. Everything in Genesis 37 appears chaotic and dysfunctional at best. Yet every action is quietly moving Joseph exactly where God intends him to be, according to His providence.

As you look forward to worshipping with the body of Christ on Sunday, take time to read the Scriptures intentionally ahead of time. Ask God to prepare your heart to receive His Word as well as give you the grace to walk in obedience to it as it is proclaimed.

So scant a corporeal trace did Jesus leave that some have claimed he was a myth. The only things he left behind were people who believed his gospel. Jesus left his Word (teaching) and his church (a few hundred people).

This Sunday we will gather to worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and look intently into His Word together! Our current sermon series continues with Genesis 36. In this passage, we learn of the descendants of Esau and the rise to power of Esau's nation, Edom. There is a pomp and circumstance to this genealogy as it is filled with the names of chiefs, kings, and leaders that display power and prosperity. However, despite Esau's prominence, this chapter shows the trajectory of unbelief that each generation continued. Esau despised his birthright and departed from God's ways. Consequently, this legacy of unbelief was handed down to each generation. For Esau and his descendants, they were not fueled by faith in God, but were driven by their desires for the things of this world. The chapter reminds us that it is possible to build an impressive earthly legacy while leaving behind a family that does not know God.

As you look forward to worshipping with the body of Christ on Sunday, take time to read the Scriptures intentionally ahead of time. Ask God to prepare your heart to receive His Word as well as give you the grace to walk in obedience to it as it is proclaimed.

Let’s take Jesus at his word, believing what he says in Matthew 5:6. Let’s praise him for being the perfect God-man, for not just knowing and doing righteousness but craving it. Let’s confess to God that, unlike Jesus, we often desire other things more than him and the righteousness to which h...
