I believe that the call on Christians today, the call on our very community, is a sort of resistance. The same sort of resistance to the empire that we see in stories like that of Perpetua. It is time to resist the Empire by embracing our identity.
If this is to be done, some shaping and forming of our identity is required. Where identity shaping is required, an identity shaper is required. Though we are shaped, mis-shaped, and reshaped by all of life, anyone who has focused on personal formation knows that if it is to be a positive effort, it is an effort not to be made in isolation.
In fact, what we will notice is that it is often the isolated who tend to become misshapen and deformed the quickest.
