Dear Saints of Redeemer,

The Christian life is marked by returning to the Lord. We can only come to the Lord because of the promise we find in the Word of God, the proclamation of the Gospel, the forgiveness of sins. Time and time again we come to the Lord like a l***r, begging for mercy. For much of our life we are foolish because we are sinful. The Christian life is marked by the fruit of the Spirit. In of ourselves we have nothing to offer for eternal salvation. The Spirit is worked in us so that Christ's salvation would be manifest. Right wisdom comes from the Lord, all other knowledge is fleeting and will not last. Let us remain steadfast in the one true faith, Christ is the Lord who has come to save us from our sins.

Dear Saints of Redeemer,

Sunday, we observe a wonderful feast day. Following our Lord's Ascension, the Apostle Bartholomew traveled east. He likely went to what is now India to preach the Gospel. Later he traveled to what is now Armenia and continued to preach until he was put to death. But what are some good takeaways we can learn from Bartholomew? The Lord worked faith in Bartholomew so that the door of salvation would be opened in him. By faith we see the Lord as Bartholomew does. Jesus is the Messiah, the Lord who has come in the flesh to suffer and die for all our sins.

Dear Saints of Redeemer,

This Sunday we remember Mary the Mother of our Lord. August is an odd time to think and reflect on the season of Advent. Our Gospel covers the visitation. The Virgin Mary with Jesus in her womb traveled to see Elizabeth. John leapt in Elizabeth's womb because the Lord had drawn near. Mary rejoices and cries out a beautiful hymn which we call the Magnificat.

Dear Saints of Redeemer,

Faith is a gift from the Lord. We are not righteous in of ourselves but instead we are declared righteous through Christ. Let us not harden our hearts to Christ and His Word. For many Christ is a rock of offense, but for the church He is the foundation that endures forever.

Dear Saints of Redeemer,

Beloved in the Lord, the scriptures were written down for our instruction. Throughout the Bible we have many examples of what we must do and what we must refrain from doing. The Lord graciously promises to help us when we are in need. Lord, help and direct our hearts and minds that we would delight in your Word.

Dear Saints of Redeemer,

Beloved in the Lord, Paul calls the Roman church to not fall back into a spirit of slavery but to live by the Spirit. We have been adopted by the Heavenly Father. By the spirit we are made fellow heirs. By the Spirit we come to know right freedom.

Dear Saints of Redeemer,

This Sunday I will be away for Synod Convention. Pastor Schuett will be leading the service and preaching on Sunday July 19th and Wednesday the 22nd.

From Pastor Schuett: Modern man thinks of slavery only in terms of physical compulsory service. As tragic as that is, there is an even more insidious type of slavery: slavery to sin. Today we learn of the free gift of God that gives us eternal life.

Dear Saints of Redeemer,

The Law reveals that we are sinners. God demands perfection regarding obedience to the 10 commandments. Especially when we reflect upon the commandments in confession and absolution. We come to realize we have failed to keep and maintain the commandments. Our only hope is not in our own righteousness but in Christ. The Heavenly Father demands perfection. Christ became the perfection of the Law, He fulfilled the Law in our stead. Amen.
