He’d do the same thing!
In reality, St Benedict encourages his monks to aid one another in daily tasks and to outdo one another in love. Prayer is crucial to our life, but so too is loving our confreres.

“Should anyone make a mistake in a psalm, responsory, refrain or reading, he must make satisfaction there before all”.
Prayer is the Benedictine monk’s main work. It is his first fruits (best fruits) that he gives to God. Because of our humanity, there are times when a brother chants an incorrect note or sings a wrong word. These mistakes do not take away from the worship at hand, but act as an opportunity for humility and a reminder of a monk’s dependence on God.

“Great care and concern are to be shown in receiving poor people … because in them more particularly Christ is received”. - RB 53
Christ is to be encountered and loved in all people, most especially the poor, for Christ himself was poor. It is they whom rely on Him the most. Monks from the Archabbey help support charitable endeavors at our old parish in Baltimore, including helping the beautiful work of the missionaries of charity.
