What does it mean to offer our lives as a "living sacrifice"?

It doesn't mean trying to do enough good things to earn God's favor.

It doesn't mean sacrificing enough of ourselves to somehow make ourselves worthy to stand in God's presence.

We couldn't do that.

Instead, Paul points us first to the mercy of God.

Jesus became the perfect sacrifice for us. On the cross, He did what no sacrifice we could ever make could accomplish. He didn't simply cover our sins. He defeated sin and death once and for all. And because Christ lives, we now live in Him.

Our everyday lives become an opportunity to worship the One who gave everything for us. In our families. In our work. In our friendships. In our service. In the ordinary gifts and vocations God has given us.

We don't live for Christ in order to earn His love. We live in response to the love He has already given us. That is what it means to be a living sacrifice.

Music has always been an important part of how God's people worship together. At Mountain View Lutheran, we have the joy of making music in many different ways, and we're thankful for everyone who shares their gifts with our church family.

Adult Choir rehearsals are Mondays at 6:00pm. Adult Handbells rehearsals are Mondays at 7:00pm. Praise Band rehearsals are Wednesday at 6:30pm.

Our Praise Band is always looking for musicians and vocalists who would like to use their gifts to help lead our contemporary worship.

You don't have to be a professional. You simply need a willingness to serve and a desire to use what God has given you.

Whether you sing, play an instrument, ring a bell, or simply love encouraging others through music, there may be a place for you here.

Paul's words in Romans 11 leave us in awe: "Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God!"

After reflecting on God's incredible mercy and wisdom, Paul turns to a question that reaches into our everyday lives: How should we respond to the mercy of God?

We offer our lives to Him.

Romans 12 reminds us that we are not all given the same gifts, but we are all given gifts to use in service to God and one another.

Some teach.
Some serve.
Some encourage.
Some give.
Some lead.

And every gift matters.

As you read Romans 11:33–12:8 this week, consider this: What gifts has God given you, and how might you use them to serve others? Your gifts don't have to be impressive to be valuable. They simply need to be offered to the God who gave them to you.

Meet Christin Schlicker, our Music Director, Music Teacher, and the heart behind so much of the music ministry at Mountain View!

Christin serves in so many different ways across our church and school, helping lead our congregation in worship, teaching our students, directing our musical ensembles, and encouraging others to use their gifts to glorify God.

From choir and handbells to worship services and school music, Christin has a gift for bringing people together through music.

We're so thankful for the joy, creativity, dedication, and heart Christin brings to Mountain View.

If you see her this week, be sure to say hello and thank her for all she does!

Yesterday, we were reminded that the grace of Jesus isn't limited by our background, our past, or whether we think we belong. He is Lord for all people, and His mercy is greater than we can imagine.

We don't come to Jesus because we've earned a place at His table. We come because He is gracious and merciful.

Even the crumbs from the hand of Jesus are more than enough to fill our souls. What a gift to carry into this week!

If you missed Sunday's message, you can watch the full sermon on our YouTube channel.

"Do I know you?" It's a question we don't expect Jesus to ask.

This Sunday, we'll hear the story of a Canaanite woman who comes to Jesus asking Him to help her daughter. She knows who Jesus is. She trusts Him. And she refuses to give up, even when she seems to be turned away.

Her story points us to a beautiful truth: Jesus is for everyone.

His grace is not limited by our background, our past, or whether we think we belong.

We can rejoice that God has worked in our hearts to believe and trust that Jesus is Lord. And even the smallest "crumb" from His hand is more than enough to fill our souls.

Come hear this story of faith, mercy, and the generous grace of Jesus.

Faith grows in community.

One of the ways we grow at Mountain View is by gathering around God's Word together.

Our Bible studies are places to ask questions, dig deeper into Scripture, learn alongside others, and encourage one another in faith. Some studies are topical, some work through books of the Bible, and some are designed around different seasons and stages of life.

Our weekly Bible studies begin meeting again the week of August 23rd, and there's something for everyone!

Not sure which one might be a good fit? Come to our Connection Fair this Sunday at 9:30am.

You'll have an opportunity to learn more about the Bible studies we offer, meet the people who lead them, and see what topics and studies are coming up.

You don't have to know everything before you walk in. Just come, ask questions, and see where you might find a place to grow.

God's mercy is bigger than we are.

Romans 11 reminds us that God's purposes have never failed, even when His people have wandered or when His plans are difficult for us to understand.

And Paul brings us to this beautiful truth: "For God has consigned all to disobedience, that he may have mercy on all (Romans 11:32)."

We don't come to God because we've earned our place. We come because He is merciful. His grace reaches farther than we can imagine, and His desire is that people everywhere would know and trust in Jesus.

Lord, help us receive Your mercy with gratitude and share Your grace generously.
