I was grateful to join Senator Jacky Rosen and several of my rabbinic colleagues from Southern Nevada for an important conversation about antisemitism and the security needs of our Jewish communities.

In light of last night’s frightening attack during Shabbat services at Central Synagogue in New York, that conversation feels especially urgent.

As rabbis, we want to spend these weeks preparing for the High Holy Days by thinking about prayer, repentance, music, meaning, and how we can create sacred experiences for our communities. The heartbreaking reality is that part of our preparation must also include thinking seriously about security.

I am deeply grateful for the professionals who work to keep our congregations safe, for our law enforcement partners, and for leaders like Senator Rosen who understand that the ability to gather, pray, learn, and celebrate our Judaism without fear is something worth protecting.

May we never allow fear to define our Jewish lives. And may we continue to build communities in which we can gather proudly, safely, and in peace.

Mazel Fest was more than a celebration. It was a moment — one that felt electric, joyful, and deeply, unmistakably us.

Will anyone forget Debra Messing dancing down the aisle urging us all, “Do it for the Temple”? Or the electric violin that quite literally set the tone for an unforgettable Fund-A-Need? Or that feeling in the room the energy, the laughter, the pride, a community fully alive and all in?

This wasn’t just something we attended. It was something we felt and something we created together in real time.

There were moments you couldn’t script. Conversations that hadn’t happened before. People leaning in to each other, to the cause, to the future of this place we all care so deeply about. You could feel it building, table by table, paddle by paddle, person by person.

And behind that magic was extraordinary heart and effort.

Joyce Sperling and Shawn Andrews your vision, your drive, and your refusal to settle for anything less than exceptional shaped this night in ways everyone could feel. And to the Mazel Fest Committee — this didn’t just come together… YOU made it happen.

To our Pillars — thank you for personifying the very values that hold Temple Sinai strong. You gave this evening meaning beyond the moment. Thank you Rick Hollander, Nancy Shinder, Brian Messing, Jillian Potashnick, Eric Potashnick, Cindy Davis and Jack Davis your support meant everything to me and our Temple Sinai family.

And to our clergy, staff, and volunteers who so generously gave their time, energy, and care — you are the quiet force behind what made this all possible.

And yes, what we achieved together last night exceeded every expectation. Not just in what was raised, but in what was felt.

And maybe that’s what I’ll hold onto most not just how beautiful it was, but how magical it felt.

Because that’s the real story of the night.

Not just the music, or the moments, or even the milestone…

…but the reminder of who we are when we show up for each other like this.

With gratitude (and still smiling),
Terri
