Congregation Shirat Shalom Congregation Shirat Shalom, in Las Vegas, NV, provides an uplifting & peaceful Jewish Reform style worship service.

In the spring of 2013, four unaffiliated Jews in the Henderson/Las Vegas area decided that they did not want to remain unaffiliated any longer and wanted a comfortable, affordable place to worship, in the Reform style of Judaism. Having been members of many traditional synagogues in the past, they knew that re-joining yet another traditional synagogue was not going to meet their needs. The concept

of starting a new congregation as a “Synagogue without walls”, which is a growing trend throughout the country, became very appealing and they pursued it. They tested the waters by contacting other Jews who were unaffiliated, or dissatisfied with their traditional synagogues and found that there was a definite interest in this concept. Initially, the congregation met as a nameless Havurah, or friendship group, and participants took turns leading the worship services. As momentum grew, it became evident that there was clearly a need for this group to become a full congregation, which led to the development of Congregation Shirat Shalom. The name, Shirat Shalom, means Songs of Peace and reflects the congregation’s interest in the musical and peaceful quality of the worship services.

This week is Parashat Ki Teitzei.
Ki Teitzei contains numerous laws, more than appear in any other Torah portion. These include laws about the treatment of a captive woman, returning lost objects, forbidden mixtures, the er****on of a rooftop fence, r**e, collateral, and workers’ wages.

This week is Parashat Shoftim.
Shoftim discusses guidelines of leadership, opening with a command to appoint judges and continuing to detail laws of kings, priests, and prophets. It also describes laws relating to cities of refuge for accidental killers, false witnesses, warfare, and the rite performed in a case of unsolved murder.

This week is Parashat Re’eh.
Re’eh details a series of laws in advance of the Israelites’ entrance into the Land of Israel. These include the obligation to destroy idolatry, laws of tithing and charity, dietary laws, holiday laws, and the prohibition of offering sacrifices outside of the place designated by God.

This week is Parashat Vaetchanan.
Vaetchanan opens as Moses describes his pleading with God to be allowed into the Land of Israel. Moses warns the Israelites not to pursue idolatry and recounts the giving of the Ten Commandments. The portion also contains the Shema, a declaration of faith and a central text in Jewish prayer.
