We know that trees, especially in those planted in Las Vegas, must be able to withstand the gusty winds which seek to uproot and blow them over. In our lives of faith, we know there will be those same moments in our lives. Today, we see what it means that it is not us, but God who has and is establishing our roots in Jesus even through the difficult times.

- Look back over the trials you have faced and reflect on how God was strengthening your faith in Him

Returning guest Rey, a Concordia junior in the pre-seminary theological studies program with a Biblical languages emphasis, describes his first mission trip and first time abroad: a three-week trip to Aszód, Hungary, serving VBS-style English camps for Hungarian middle and high school students at a Lutheran school across from a Lutheran church. He explains how the biannual Concordia trip began, who went (11 students plus Pastor Anderson’s family), and what camp involved—worship, Bible study in color teams, English immersion, activity rotations (sports, crafts, English, drama, music, and “Questions with PQ”), and events like dodgeball, wacky Olympics, and a “disco.” Rey shares highlights (relationships, travel, student conversations), challenges (leading Bible discussions in English with hesitant middle schoolers), observations about American-culture curiosity and English slang, and advice to pray and not be deterred by cost.

Join us for worship this weekend!
We know that trees, especially in those planted in Las Vegas, must be able to withstand the gusty winds which seek to uproot and blow them over. What was the hardest part of the experience? Today, Rey speaks on the challenges of leading conversations with middle school students while navigating a language barrier.

Speaking English was one thing—but understanding more specialized concepts and vocabulary, especially during Bible studies, could be difficult. We also talk about the awkwardness of asking a question and being met with complete silence, the importance of being comfortable with that silence, and how confidence can play a huge role when students are learning!
