Not redesigned. Rebuilt โ€” with one purpose in mind.

The Restoration Movement is 11,800 churches. Thousands of ministers, missionaries, church planters, and ministry leaders. Decades of archives, teaching, and theology that shaped a tradition. Podcasts and events and resources and conversations happening across every time zone where these churches exist.

ChristianStandard.com was always the publication of record for independent Christian churches and churches of Christ. The rebuilt site is something more โ€” a hub designed for the whole movement. A place where a church planter in rural Kentucky and a ministry leader in Southeast Asia and a senior pastor in California can find the same resources, the same conversations, the same archives, the same community.

What you will find there:

Articles and theology rooted in the Restoration Movement's commitment to Scripture โ€” written by practitioners, not just academics.

Podcasts bringing the conversations the movement is already having into one accessible place.

Archives stretching back through the history of a tradition built on the conviction that the church can be what the New Testament describes.

Ministry and event listings connecting the network that already exists but has never had a single gathering point before.

Thousands of churches, each with their own character, their own history, their own way of doing the work โ€” but all moving in the same direction, all committed to the same Lord, all part of the same story.

ChristianStandard.com is where those roads now meet.

Every summer evening it happens.

The bug zapper glows in the corner of the porch โ€” warm and humming and strangely beautiful in the darkness. And one by one, moths and beetles and flies circle toward it. Drawn by the light. Unaware of what the light actually is.

Quentin Davis says the image is funny at first. And then it becomes uncomfortable.

Because people do the same thing.

We are creatures made for light โ€” for meaning, for love, for purpose โ€” and when we encounter something that glows, we move toward it. The problem is that not everything that glows is the Light. Success. Approval. Pleasure. Control. These things promise everything light promises โ€” warmth, satisfaction, belonging โ€” and they deliver the same result as the bug zapper.

Not life. Destruction dressed up as attraction.

Romans 6:23 is honest about what the wages of that pursuit actually produce.

But Davis does not stop at the diagnosis. He makes a distinction that changes everything.

Christ also draws people to himself. He is also a light in the darkness that people move toward. But when you get close to this Light โ€” when you finally reach what you have been circling toward โ€” something does happen to you.

Something dies.

Not you. The old you. The self-centered, sin-chasing, lesser-light-pursuing version of you that was never going to find what it was actually looking for. Galatians 2:20 calls it crucifixion. Paul says he has been crucified with Christ and no longer lives.

The difference between the bug zapper and Christ is this. The bug zapper destroys what it attracts. Christ transforms it.

The old life is crucified. And through the same resurrection that emptied the tomb โ€” a new life begins. Forgiven. Free. Alive in a way the lesser lights never produced.

This is what the table is about.

The bread โ€” his body broken โ€” the moment the old self was put to death with him. The cup โ€” his blood poured out โ€” the cost of the new life that came back from the tomb.

You have been drawn to the Light.

Not for destruction. For rebirth.

The old self is crucified. The new self rises.

Come to the table and remember what it cost โ€” and what it gave back.

Read it from the beginning before you get to verse 10.

The earth is giving way. The mountains are falling into the sea. The waters are roaring. The nations are in uproar.

And into all of that โ€” into everything collapsing around people who have every reason to panic โ€” God speaks two words.

Not โ€” wait until it calms down. Not โ€” find a quiet room away from the chaos.

The eye of a hurricane is the calmest place on earth. Not because the storm is gone. Because the stillness exists at the center of it โ€” surrounded by everything violent, untouched by everything violent.

Not the stillness that comes after the hard season resolves. The stillness available right now โ€” in the center of the season that has not resolved.

Because the point of be still is not that the noise has to stop before God can speak.

It was the referees. The schedule. The media. Every postgame interview told the same story โ€” and in that story he was never the problem.

Mike Edmisten has spent decades in ministry and leadership development โ€” and he has watched the same pattern play out in the church.

The language is different in ministry. It is the elders who do not understand, the congregation that resists change, the budget that never allows for it. The excuses sound more reasonable.

Responsibility gets deflected outward. Inner growth grinds to a halt.

Nobody was going to advocate for his personal development except him. If he did not own it โ€” nobody would.

Most ministry leaders already know where they need to grow. The knowing is not the problem.

A leader who does not lead themselves well is a danger to everyone in their sphere of influence.

Leadership does not begin with them.

The good news โ€” ownership does not mean isolation. Cohorts, coaching, and communities of growing leaders exist because the responsibility is personal but the journey is not solitary.
