When Rachel Gross and her husband, Bob, got married in 1974, they did not want to support the US’s war economy, so they decided to keep their income low enough so that they would not owe federal taxes. This decision paired well with working at low salaries or as volunteers for non-profit organizations. Much of their work has revolved around abolition of the death penalty. In 1978, they founded the Death Row Support Project, which invites people to write to those sentenced to death across the US. Rachel’s time with us will focus on her experiences in coordinating that project.
