So today is Valentine's Day...
A day full of love for some and agony for others.
This day in particular, brings out the extremes of this one emotion.
For some, this day reminds them of how loved they are.
For others, It's a reminder of an emptiness in their life.
When I think of the loves in my life - my husband, my kids, my closest friends, I think of how much vulnerability there has had to be in order for the love relationships to not just exist, but flourish.
The ability to be open about who we are, what we are feeling, our likes and dislikes, what we believe, our dreams - this all opens the door to rejection.
Love isn't just about the mushy, gushy romantic kind of stuff.
Love is about being in the trenches with the other person.
It's about seeing someone at their worst and being able to look in their eyes, past the hurt and anger, past the outbrust of uncontrolled emotion, and still be able to see them through God's eyes.
Real love sees you at your worst and loves you anyways.
To know God's unconditional love is to know real love.
To be fully known...FULLY known and yet still loved.
No one should go through this day with their head hung low.
Contrary to what all the commercialism wants to make this day about, our true Valentine is the One who knows us better than anyone.
The One who would do anything to have us spend our days with Him.
The One who was willing to sacrifice everything in order for us to know and have everlasting love.
Now that's my kind of Valentine!
