JESUH THLUNNAK LAMZIN UMSUN
The New Way of Discipleship
(Jesuh Thlundan Lamzin Thar)

Luke 9:23-27
23 And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.24 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. 25 For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself? 26 For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.27 But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God.”
Thesis: Jesus calls for discipleship by inviting us to follow him, endure suffering alongside him, and share in his glory—therefore, this is the only path forward.
Main Points
1. The New Way of Discipleship (vv. 23-26)
(a) Call to take up the cross (v. 23)
(b) Call to lose one’s life for Christ’s sake—only to save it (vv. 24–25)
(c) Call not to be ashamed of the Son of Man (v. 26)
2. The promise that some will see the kingdom before death (v. 27)

TEMPTATION
Proverbs 30:1-9
A true Christian who does not learn God's teaching and lacks understanding is a fool. The Bible says, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction" (Proverbs 1:7). The sermon text, Proverbs 30:1-7, discusses Agur's two petitions to God, asking not to be rich or poor. The question is whether being rich or poor is detrimental to a true Christian; absolutely not. What does this text then mean? "Agur," whether a real man or Solomon's mouthpiece allegorically, is a foolish man who does not learn wisdom, which means he does not fear God. Therefore, for a foolish Christian who has no fear of God, riches will make him proud before God, and poverty will also make him rob, and God's name will be destroyed. The central theme of Proverbs is wisdom, and wisdom is to be learned by God's children. For the fool, neither being rich nor poor is good, because the fool can not handle appropriately, because he has no fear of God.
