We want to hear from you!

Brothers and Sisters, The Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston invites all parishioners to take part in the Disciple Maker Index survey. The Disciple Maker Index (DMI) is an anonymous survey of parishioners that provides insights into the level of missionary discipleship in the parish, in addition to the effectiveness of the Mass experience, preaching, and other aspects of the parish.

Your participation will help provide your pastor and parish ministerial leaders with a better understanding of where to focus efforts and energies to help you grow in your faith and achieve the parish’s mission.

The DMI survey is open for responses until Oct. 25.

As Pope Leo XIV is admitted to Gemelli Hospital today for surgery, we join the Diocese of Rome in praying the Rosary for the Holy Father. Cardinal Baldassare Reina, vicar general of Rome, will lead the Rosary at noon EDT (11 a.m. CDT, 10 a.m. MDT, 9 a.m. PDT) in St. John Paul II Chapel inside Gemelli Hospital, and has asked parishes and religious communities in the diocese to pray at the same hour. We invite Catholics across the United States to join them in prayer. You can also watch the livestream from Vatican News on the Vatican News YouTube channel. Please keep Pope Leo and his doctors in your prayers.

Yesterday, the U.S. Department of War announced that the firing squad ex*****on of Nidal Hasan, the man convicted of killing 13 people and injuring 32 at Fort Hood, Texas in 2009, would be publicly livestreamed. Archbishop Paul S. Coakley, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops issued the following statement sharply condemning the decision of the U.S. government:

“It is with shock and great sorrow that I have learned of the Department of War’s decision to publicly livestream the ex*****on of Nidal Hasan. Our God is the God of life. In no way can Hassan’s actions be condoned but this decision is a barbaric promotion of a culture of death and must be reconsidered. The word of God exhorts us: ‘do not repay anyone evil for evil' (Romans 12:17). The public ex*****on even of one who has done grave harm will only further undermine the moral fabric of our nation and be a blight on the conscience of its people.

“I pray for the intercession of Our Lady of Good Counsel that we as a nation may always choose life even in the most trying times and circumstances.”
