South Zumbro Lutheran Church is a vibrant and growing congregation located in rural Kasson, Minnesota. Our members come from many different backgrounds and communities. With over 250 families and members, South Zumbro, offers a community of ministry that is faithful to worship, bible study, evangelism, music and serving those in
need. South Zumbro Lutheran Church was founded by Norwegian immigrants in 1868. The church, located in rural Kasson, belonged in its early days to the Hauge's Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Synod and later joined the American Lutheran Church (ALC). For many years, South Zumbro was a two-point congregation with Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter, Minnesota. In 1988, South Zumbro joined the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and went back to being an independent congregation. Today the church has grown to over 800 in baptized membership. In January of 2011, South Zumbro voted overwhelmingly to leave the ELCA and join Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LCMC). Our worship style still reflects our heritage; the style is less liturgical than other Lutheran congregations and stronger on hymns and biblical preaching. An active lay leadership and great musical talent adds much to our worship. South Zumbro is a mission-minded church, reaching out not only to our local surrounding communities, but also the greater United States and the world. Our members come from many of the small towns that make up southeast Minnesota. South Zumbro's mission is to serve Jesus Christ and bring his message of salvation and love into our community. We welcome all to church to worship to hear Christ's message and feel his love and support.
