Brock Purdy says his Christian faith has been one of the biggest reasons he’s been able to handle the pressure of being the 49ers’ starting quarterback, giving credit to teammates who helped strengthen his walk with God.
Purdy said he was fortunate to find a strong group of believers when he entered the NFL, specifically mentioning Christian McCaffrey, Charlie Woerner, Oren Burks, and team pastor Earl Smith.
“To have guys that believe in the Lord and can help you and pour into you with their experiences and everything, I found that huge.”
The 49ers quarterback also revealed that Psalm 23 has become part of his daily routine. He reads it every morning and says he prays during games—not to win, but to stay calm and focused under pressure.
“It’s not, ‘God, can we win here?’ It’s more just to have that peace, that steadfastness in all the chaos.”
Purdy explained that his faith reminds him his identity isn’t defined by football or outside opinions, allowing him to stay grounded through both success and adversity in the NFL.
