Who is shaping your desires? Who is teaching you what the good life looks like? Whether we realize it or not, we are all being formed by something -- and Jesus warns us in Luke 6:39-40 that everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.
This week in our series "A Long Obedience in the Same Direction," we explored Psalm 123 and the powerful posture of the servant who keeps their eyes fixed on their master. In a world full of loud voices competing for our attention, the pilgrim must make a deliberate choice: I lift my eyes to the Lord.
Like blind Bartimaeus on the side of the road, we all need mercy. We all need to see clearly. And when we humble ourselves before God, he does not leave us as servants -- he raises us up as sons and daughters.
Lift your eyes. Watch his hand. Wait for his mercy. Jesus is not only the destination -- he is the way.
