Westside Christian Church is a community of imperfect people who make up a family walking in faith and worshiping God. Christianity is not about “religion” it is about relationships with God and with one another. Who is shaping your desires? Who is teaching you what the good life looks like? Whether we realize it or not, we are all being formed by something -- and Jesus warns us in Luke 6:39-40 that everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.

This week in our series "A Long Obedience in the Same Direction," we explored Psalm 123 and the powerful posture of the servant who keeps their eyes fixed on their master. In a world full of loud voices competing for our attention, the pilgrim must make a deliberate choice: I lift my eyes to the Lord.

Like blind Bartimaeus on the side of the road, we all need mercy. We all need to see clearly. And when we humble ourselves before God, he does not leave us as servants -- he raises us up as sons and daughters.

Lift your eyes. Watch his hand. Wait for his mercy. Jesus is not only the destination -- he is the way.

Church can easily become something we evaluate by asking, “What am I getting out of this?” But Jesus gives us a very different picture of His people.

After receiving the blessings of worship in Jerusalem, the pilgrim of Psalm 122 begins praying for the peace and good of the city. He moves from receiver to giver.

The same should happen in us.

Jesus said His disciples would be recognized by the way they love one another. Romans 12 shows us what that love looks like: honoring one another, sharing with those in need, practicing hospitality, rejoicing together, grieving together, and living in harmony.

“We do not serve in order to earn Christ's love. We serve because we have already received it.”

A healthy church isn't built by spectators. It grows when ordinary believers offer their time, gifts, prayers, encouragement, and presence for the good of others.

You don't have to do everything. But God has given you something that can bless someone.

What if you walked through today remembering that you are a dwelling place of God?

Ancient pilgrims traveled great distances to reach the temple in Jerusalem. The temple represented God's presence among His people.

But through Christ, something extraordinary has happened: God has made His dwelling in His people.

Paul writes that God's Spirit dwells in us. That truth should change more than our Sunday mornings. It should shape our conversations, relationships, habits, decisions, and the way we treat the people around us.

“You carry the presence of God with you.”

This isn't about earning God's presence by behaving perfectly. It's about learning to live differently because His presence is already ours through Christ.

And this isn't only an individual reality. Ephesians reminds us that together, believers are being built into a dwelling place for God. The church isn't simply a crowd of people attending the same service—we are a people Christ is joining together as His spiritual house.

Today, before one decision, conversation, or response, pause and ask:

Does this honor the One who dwells within me?

How would remembering God's presence change the way you approach your day?

Gratitude doesn't deny what is difficult. It reminds us that difficulty isn't the whole story.

When Paul tells believers to rejoice, pray, and bring their requests to God with thanksgiving, he's writing from prison. His circumstances weren't easy, predictable, or comfortable.

That's what makes his words so powerful.

Gratitude isn't pretending everything is fine. It's deliberately remembering who God is while life is still uncertain.

“Gratitude doesn't tell us there is nothing to worry about. It reminds us that we have Someone to trust.”

Anxiety tends to fix our attention on what might happen, what we can't control, or what we believe we're missing. Gratitude turns our eyes toward God's faithfulness—toward prayers He has answered, grace He has provided, people He has given us, and ultimately toward Jesus.

Try something simple this week: before checking your phone each morning, write down three things you're genuinely thankful for and turn them into a prayer.

You may discover that gratitude doesn't necessarily change your circumstances—but it begins changing the way you carry them.

Worship will not always begin with a feeling of excitement.

Some Sundays we arrive grateful and ready. Other Sundays we arrive tired, distracted, discouraged, or carrying something heavy. Scripture does not tell us to gather only when worship feels easy. Hebrews reminds believers not to neglect meeting together, because gathering with God's people is one of the ways God forms us.

Israel's journey to Jerusalem required commitment too. They traveled because worship mattered—and along the way, their hearts were continually reminded of who God was.

The same can happen to us.

When we gather, we hear the gospel again. We remember that God is still faithful, Jesus is still Lord, and we are not walking through life alone.

“Worship does more than express what we already feel. It teaches our hearts what is true.”

You do not have to arrive at church with the perfect attitude or a perfectly ordered life. Come tired. Come distracted. Come with questions.

Just come—and allow God to keep forming you through His Word and His people.

You were never meant to walk the road of faith alone.

Paul calls the church the body of Christ—many different people, each needed and each belonging to the whole.

Sometimes we need someone to remind us to keep going. Sometimes God calls us to be that person for someone else.

Christian community is more than sitting in the same room on Sunday. It's noticing one another, carrying burdens, praying together, and intentionally showing up.

Today's challenge: Reach out to one person in your church family. Send the text. Make the call. Ask how you can pray.

The road may be long, but God has placed fellow pilgrims beside us.
