SELAH
A lady went to her Pastor and said, “Pastor, I’ve decided I’m not coming back to church anymore.”
The Pastor asked, “Why?”
She said, “Because I see too much. People are on their phones during service, some are gossiping, some aren’t living right, and some are just plain hypocrites.”
The Pastor said, “I understand. But before you make your final decision, will you do one thing for me?”
She said, “What’s that?”
He handed her a Bible and said, “I want you to walk through the sanctuary and find every place you see the word ‘JESUS.’ Each time you find HIS name, write down the page number. Don’t miss a single one.”
She agreed.
For the next several minutes, she flipped through the pages carefully, searching and writing down every place she found the name JESUS.
When she finished, she returned to the Pastor.
He asked, “While you were searching, did you notice who was on their phone?”
She said, “No.”
“Did you hear anybody gossiping?”
“No.”
“Did you notice who wasn’t living right?”
She said, “No, Pastor. I was too busy looking for JESUS.”
The Pastor smiled.
“And there’s your answer.”
When you come to church, come looking for JESUS.
If you come looking for people’s faults, you’ll find them.
If you come looking for imperfections, you’ll find those too.
But if you come looking for JESUS, you’ll find HIM.
People aren’t perfect.
Church people aren’t perfect.
Pastors aren’t perfect.
And neither are we.
But JESUS never told us to follow people.
HE said, “Follow ME.”
Don’t let somebody else’s relationship with GOD interfere with yours.
Come to worship.
Come to receive.
Come to grow.
Come looking for JESUS.
Because what you focus on can determine what you leave with.
