VISION REQUIRES PARTNERSHIP
Romans 15:24 — “Whensoever I take my journey into Spain, I will come to you: for I trust to see you in my journey, and to be brought on my way thitherward by you…”
Paul had a deep desire to carry the Gospel into territory that had not yet been reached. His vision included Rome and eventually Spain, but the road ahead would not be easy. Trials, persecution, imprisonment, storms, and even shipwreck would become part of his journey. Still, the hindrances did not remove the vision God had placed within him.
Paul also understood that he could not accomplish this work alone. His words to the Roman believers reveal that he expected them to become partners in the mission. He would preach and go, but fellow believers would help send, support, and strengthen him along the way.
As Sightler observed, no missionary or pastor accomplishes the work alone. We are laborers together in the Gospel, and the preacher depends upon fellow laborers who stand alongside him in the work (Sightler 1999). God places different people in different roles, but all are participating in the same Gospel mission.
A faithful pulpit may sound the call and communicate the vision, but a willing pew must stand shoulder to shoulder in support. When God's people link arms around the Gospel, He uses that partnership to carry His message farther than any one person could take it alone.
Call to Action
Do not sit on the sidelines of Gospel ministry. Ask God where He has placed you in the partnership, then faithfully use your place to help carry the Gospel forward.
