The Faith Presbyterian Church Family Honors the Life and Legacy of Cassandra Wilson

With grateful hearts and a profound sense of connection, the Faith Presbyterian Church family honors the life and extraordinary legacy of Cassandra Wilson—truly one of our own.

Cassandra’s ties to Faith run deep. Her beloved mother, Dr. Mary Fowlkes, faithfully served as an Elder of Faith Presbyterian Church and was a pivotal presence in the life and ministry of our congregation. Through her leadership, wisdom, service, and steadfast faith, Dr. Fowlkes helped strengthen the foundation upon which generations of the Faith family continue to stand.

It was within this legacy of faith, family, service, and community that Cassandra’s remarkable journey was rooted.

A Grammy Award-winning jazz artist whose unmistakable voice reached audiences around the world, Cassandra became one of Mississippi’s great cultural treasures. Her artistry transcended boundaries and generations, yet no matter how far her gifts carried her, her story remained connected to the people, places, and traditions that helped shape her.

Today, Faith celebrates more than an internationally acclaimed artist. We celebrate a daughter of a family woven into the history of our church.

We thank God for the extraordinary gift He placed within Cassandra and for the countless lives touched through her music. We also remember with gratitude the faithful legacy of her mother, Dr. Mary Fowlkes, whose contributions remain part of the story of Faith Presbyterian Church.

As Scripture reminds us:

“I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations.”
— Psalm 89:1

We extend our deepest love, prayers, and sympathy to the Wilson and Fowlkes families and to all who mourn her passing.

Faith honors one of our own.

May Cassandra’s music continue to inspire.
May her family’s legacy at Faith continue to be remembered.
And may her soul rest eternally in the presence and peace of God.

🕊️ Well done. Rest well, Cassandra. Your song will live on. 🎶🙏🏾

☀️ Faith, Food, Fellowship & Fun! 🍔🌭🍗

Today, our Deacons sponsored our Annual Church Picnic, and what a wonderful time we had! 🙌🏾

The grill was fired up with burgers, hot dogs, and chicken, and the fellowship was even better! There was some serious Bingo playing going on—with plenty of friendly competition! 😂 And needless to say, the kids had an absolute ball! 🎉

Days like today remind us that church is more than Sunday worship—it’s also about fellowship, family, laughter, and building community together. ❤️

A huge THANK YOU to our Deacons for sponsoring such a fun and memorable day!

It’s the first Sunday in August, and it’s hotttt! ☀️🥵 But the work of the Church never stops.

Today, the Faith Presbyterian Church family continued our commitment to serving our neighbors at Billy Brumfield. We were blessed to share a delicious meal of chicken tetrazzini, turnip greens, pinto beans, and cornbread with the residents.

We are grateful for every volunteer who prepared, served, donated, and prayed. Ministry isn’t confined to Sunday morning worship—it happens wherever God’s love is shared through acts of compassion and service.

Thank you to everyone who continues to help Faith Presbyterian live out Christ’s call to love and serve others.

“Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” — 1 John 3:18 ❤️
