"I am not my own,
but belong—
body and soul,
in life and in death—
to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ."
Join us this Sunday as we confess that Christ is "our only comfort in life and death" (The Heidelberg Catechism, Question 1).
This Sunday begins our new sermon series, Truth and Life. How should the good news about Jesus shape the life of the local church? Answering that question is the focus of the third of the Pastoral Epistles, the letter to Titus. Like Timothy, who was sent to serve in Ephesus, Titus was a younger colleague and ministry partner of Paul, left on the island of Crete by the apostle to bring good order and spiritual health to the newly established congregations there. In this letter, Titus is being instructed, and we are being helped to see, that success in the mission of the church does not depend on the draw of big personalities or the organizational skills of administrative leaders. It is the gospel that must shape the church’s leaders, members, and mission, and from the gospel that faithfulness and fruitfulness flow. Far from a dusty policy manual or a niche training resource relevant only to leaders, the letter to Titus shows us that the vitality of the church depends entirely on the grace of God in the Lord Jesus Christ, and that is a lesson we must never tire of learning.
We are so glad to have the opportunity to commission the summer staff of Twin Lakes Camp this week in the 11 a.m. service. Join us as we pray that God would be glorified as they serve, care for, and shepherd hundreds of campers who will come to our camp this summer!
