Weekly Time of Prayer in the Sanctuary: August is coming to an end — and the calendar is making it pretty clear that a new season is about to begin.
Harvest continues for some. Summer activities are winding down. School staff are already back at work, and students will soon be returning. Before long, backpacks, buses, homework, practices, and alarm clocks will once again become part of everyday life.
Every season brings its own joys... and its own burdens.
And sometimes we simply need a quiet place to stop.
That's why each Thursday, the sanctuary at Ione Community Church is open as a peaceful place where anyone in our community can step away from the busyness for a little while.
Whether you're giving thanks, carrying concerns for someone you love, facing an important decision, grieving a loss, finishing up harvest, preparing for school, or simply needing a quiet place to breathe, you are welcome.
There is no program.
No expectations.
No need to have the "right" words.
Just a quiet place to pray...
to reflect...
to listen...
or simply to rest.
Whether you've walked with God for many years, you're exploring faith, you're not quite sure what you believe, or you simply need some peace and quiet, the doors are open to you.

Prayer for the Last Week of August: "Trusting God Through Every Season"
"Gracious God,
Here we are at the end of August.
Summer is still with us, but another season is already beginning to take shape. Harvest continues. Summer activities are winding down. School staff have returned, students are preparing to come back, and once again we are reminded how quickly one season of life gives way to another.
Through every change, You remain the same — yesterday, today, and forever.
We thank You for Your faithfulness. While our calendars, circumstances, responsibilities, and worries continue to change, You remain our refuge, our strength, and our steady hope.
We thank You for the progress made throughout this year's harvest. Continue to watch over every farmer, truck driver, equipment operator, mechanic, elevator worker, and everyone whose labor helps bring food from the field to our tables. Protect them from accidents and fatigue. Grant favorable weather, alert minds, steady hands, patience when machinery decides not to cooperate, and strength for the work that remains.
We remember our ranching families and all who have been affected by wildfires this summer. Where grazing lands, livestock, homes, businesses, or livelihoods have been threatened or damaged, bring provision, encouragement, and hope. Bless the neighbors and communities who step forward to help one another.
We give thanks for every firefighter, first responder, emergency volunteer, law enforcement officer, and public servant who has served during this wildfire season. Protect them and strengthen them for the work that remains.
We also give thanks for the memories made through County Fair — for young people who worked hard, families who supported them, volunteers who gave their time, and a community that came together. Thank You for the lessons learned, friendships strengthened, accomplishments celebrated, and even the animals that eventually decided to cooperate.
And now, as a new school year begins, we lift before You our students, teachers, administrators, school employees, bus drivers, coaches, volunteers, and families.
For those who are excited, share in their joy.
For those who are nervous, give them peace.
For those beginning something new, give them courage.
For teachers and staff, give wisdom, patience, energy, and a renewed sense of purpose.
For families returning to schedules, activities, homework, practices, and earlier mornings, give them an extra measure of grace — and perhaps a little patience with the alarm clock.
And for every child and young person, remind them that their worth will never be measured by a grade, a trophy, their popularity, their performance, or whether they have everything figured out. Help them know that they are deeply loved, wonderfully made in Your image, and precious in Your sight.
Lord, busy seasons can make us believe that everything depends upon us.
Remind us that while our work matters, our hope is not found in our own strength.
Teach us to rest in You.
Help us trust You with what we cannot control.
Give us hearts that notice our neighbors, hands ready to serve, and words that bring hope wherever fear, loneliness, or discouragement have taken root.
Fill us with the fruit of Your Spirit — love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control — so that our homes, workplaces, schools, farms, ranches, and community become places where Your presence can be seen through us.
As August gives way to September, help us not become so busy preparing for what's next that we miss the life You have given us today.
Teach us to pause long enough to hear Your voice.
To notice the people around us.
To receive Your peace.
To give thanks for Your blessings.
And to find renewed strength in Your presence.
We place ourselves, our families, our neighbors, our community, and our state into Your loving hands.
Whatever this new season may bring, help us remember that we do not enter it alone.
You are already there.
In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, we pray.
