INVERNESS NEEDS A CHURCH WHERE QUESTIONS ARE WELCOME.

What if I'm not sure what I believe?
What if I have doubts?
What if I disagree with someone sitting three rows away?
What if I've been hurt by a church before?

Those aren't reasons to stay away from God.

They might be the beginning of a deeper faith.

United Methodists have a long tradition of thinking seriously about faith through Scripture, tradition, reason, and experience.

We don't believe you have to turn off your brain when you walk through the church doors.
Bring your faith.

What if the problem isn’t that we’re wasting our lives…

…but that we’re moving so fast we’re missing them?

We hear YOLO — You Only Live Once — and it can make life feel like a race. See everything. Do everything. Experience everything. Don’t miss out.

But Jesus offers another way.

YOLO says: Life is short. Hurry up.
Jesus says: Life is eternal. Pay attention.

This Sunday at Inverness First, we’ll look at the story of Mary and Martha in Luke 10:38–42 and ask a question that may hit closer to home than we expect: What is distracting me from what matters most?

In response to the catastrophic flash flooding that occurred along the Nepal-Tibet border on August 26, UMCOR is awarding a solidarity grant to support United Mission Nepal as they aid impacted communities in Dhading and Nuwakot districts with emergency food and non-food item (NFI) assistance. Alongside this grant, UMCOR is continuing to explore opportunities for further response through our partner networks and local assessments.

Please remain in prayer for these communities as the toll of this disaster continues to worsen. Authorities now report that at least 579 people have died and 1,924 people remain missing, with these numbers expected to grow as some areas remain inaccessible. Search and rescue teams are still working to reach communities cut off by the disaster, with damaged roads, landslides, and communications disruptions hindering relief operations and making it difficult to fully assess needs.

We lift up this call for prayer, presence, and continued accompaniment from the Rev. Jung Eun Grace Moon, general secretary of the Christian Conference of Asia, ecumenical partner of The United Methodist Church: “In this time of profound loss and suffering, may God’s comforting presence draw near to all those affected, embrace those who grieve, strengthen those who search and serve, shelter those who have lost their homes and kindle a light of hope amid the darkness.”

INVERNESS NEEDS A CHURCH THAT BELIEVES GRACE COMES FIRST.

You don't have to get your life together before God will love you.
You don't have to believe everything perfectly.
You don't have to erase your past.
You don't have to prove that you belong.

One of the great convictions of the United Methodist tradition is that God's grace is already at work before we ever take our first step toward God.

We call it prevenient grace.

It means God is already reaching.
Already loving.
Already inviting.
Already at work.

That's the kind of church we want to be in Inverness.

A community where people encounter grace before judgment.

“Everything happens for a reason.”

We often say those words when life becomes painful or confusing. But is that really what Jesus taught?

This Sunday, we continue our series “Jesus Never Said That” with a message from Luke 11:1–13. We will discover that not everything that happens is God’s will. Yet nothing we face is beyond God’s presence, grace, or power to redeem.

Does Inverness really need another church?

That's a fair question. There are already plenty of churches in our community.

So why does Inverness need a United Methodist Church?

We believe we have something important to contribute.
We believe grace comes before judgment.
We believe people can bring their questions as well as their faith.
We believe every person has sacred worth.
We believe following Jesus means caring about justice, compassion, hunger, loneliness, and the needs of our neighbors.
We believe people can disagree and still sit at the same table.
And we believe a church shouldn't simply exist in its community.
It should exist for its community.

Over the next several weeks, we'd like to tell you a little more about who United Methodists are, what we believe, and why we believe this particular expression of Christianity still matters.

You may agree with us.
You may disagree with us.
You may even have some questions for us.

Good. We think that's where meaningful conversations begin.
