During yesterday's Council Meeting, the City of Inman recognized Sergeant Malcolm Ford of the Inman Police Department for his lifesaving efforts during the shooting at Haywood Mall on June 13, 2026.

Although he was off duty at the time, Sgt. Ford immediately took action to protect those around him. During the incident, he worked to move approximately 30 to 40 people to a safe location, demonstrating courage and quick thinking.

Sgt. Ford has served with the Inman Police Department since 2015. Throughout his career, he has shown dedication to his profession by mentoring fellow officers, pursuing training opportunities, and consistently going above and beyond in service to the community.

Officer Ford reflected on the incident, saying, “When I heard the shots in the mall, I saw the panic on everyone’s face. My first instinct was that I needed to find a safe place for everyone. I knew that everyone would be running in all directions and that I needed to stay calm and assess the situation.”

We are proud to recognize Officer Ford for his bravery and professionalism.
