Our IN-KY Synod Hunger Grant Spotlight series continues with First Lutheran Church in Columbus, Indiana, where a simple ministry is making a meaningful difference every day.

Located across from subsidized housing in a lower-income neighborhood, First Lutheran's Blessing Boxes provide free, accessible food to anyone in need.

Congregation members stock the boxes daily, offering everything from healthy snacks for children to meal items for families. As hunger continues to rise in the community, the boxes are being used more than ever. Children often stop by after school for a snack, while adults rely on the ministry to help stretch limited household resources.

The Blessing Boxes also create opportunities for connection. As neighbors visit the church for food, many seek prayer, conversation, and spiritual care.

Through this Hunger Grant, First Lutheran will purchase additional food to help meet the growing demand and continue sharing Christ's love by caring for both the physical and spiritual needs of their community.

To observe PRIDE Month, we will be sharing a different story each week from one of our congregations about the holy work of welcome, listening, learning, and love.

This week, we feature Christ Lutheran Church and their journey toward becoming a Reconciling in Christ congregation. What began in 2021 as a small group committed to prayer, study, and conversation grew into a congregation-wide commitment to deeper welcome for LGBTQIA+ neighbors, siblings in Christ, and people too often left unheard by the church.

Read Kathy Sutherland’s reflection on how Christ Lutheran continues to live into God’s expansive welcome with courage, humility, and hope. https://iksynod.org/get-involved/lgbtqia-inclusion.html

Something meaningful is taking shape across the Indiana-Kentucky Synod—and it starts with your story.

The 333 Initiative is a synod-wide effort to gather 333 stories between May 1, 2026 and May 20, 2029 (Pentecost Sunday). We are listening for what is emerging around us—new ministries, renewed callings, bold imagination, and the movement of the Holy Spirit in our communities.

Inspired by Psalm 33:3, “Sing to the Lord a new song,” this is an invitation to notice and share the ways God is at work right now.

Your story could be the encouragement someone else needs.

Be part of the 333. Share what you are seeing. Help us tell the story of where God is leading us next.

05/31/2026: Holy Trinity Sunday was a joyful celebration at Hope Lutheran Church in Frankfort, KY, with Bishop Timothy Graham leading the service. The highlight was the heartfelt moments shared with the congregation. Racheal’s beautiful organ playing lifted the worship experience, while the fellowship hall was filled with delicious treats and warm conversations, including with Pastor Mary Metzger, Hope’s Pastor of Record. It was also revealed that Hope Lutheran Church originally started at a Holiday Inn. A special highlight was 5-month-old Riyana Hope, whose bright smile brought joy to everyone. It was a meaningful day to unite as the church in Frankfort, Kentucky. Thank you, Hope Lutheran Church, for the wonderful welcome!
