Leading people to Christ should not be the end of our concern for them. Do you really want your new converts to get saved and then just keep living the same worldly life? Do you want them to keep drinking, fornicating, living in sin, never reading their Bible, never praying, and never growing in the Lord? Do you want them to end up in some bad church teaching them false doctrine simply because nobody took the time to follow up with them? Of course not! If we genuinely care about the people we win to Christ, we should care about what happens to them after they get saved.
That’s exactly what we see with Paul and Barnabas in Acts 14. They risked their life and went back to the places where they preached the Gospel, “confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith” (Acts 14:22).
Follow up with your converts! Get their contact information. Invite them to church. Talk to them about baptism. Encourage them to read the Bible and pray. Teach them how to live the Christian life. If we do a soulwinning marathon out of state, spend some time doing research for them and point them to a good church.
The Great Commission does not end at salvation! We should desire not only to see people saved, but to see those converts become strong, faithful, and fruitful Christians.
1 Thessalonians 2:8 So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us.
