2026 Note to public

Donations have gone down this last year and as a Non-Profit we rely heavily on donations for the upkeep of our cemetery. We try to keep our sale of plots down in order to make it easier on families but this also requires help from the public.

During a funeral you may name Mayo Cemetery as a donation request or during any sort of fund raiser. This helps immensely.

We ask that you dig deep and help us to keep our cemetery one of the best in Dubois County.

Spring is on it's way and the grass is greening up. Along with this comes mowing for the 2026 season.

Just a reminder of the rules regarding decorations and flowers at the cemetery:

- No Shepherds hooks or solar lights or any decoration may be placed on the grass.
- No glass containers or ornaments of any kind. These can get knocked off the tombstone and get hit with the mower.
- No live shrubs, trees or flowers on the grass
- No fences or barriers
- No pets may be buried
- All flowers or arrangements are to be removed one week after the burial
- Please use the permanent vases which are attached to the tombstones.

These rules are put into place so that the caretakers & Mowing company can do their job efficiently without having to mow around items. We thank you for your consideration in this matter as it helps us to keep our cemetery looking great.

A huge thank you to Patoka Township Mayo Cemetery caretakers, Linda Whitsitt Cline, Bill Cline, and Alan Hopf, for jumping in today at Madison Township Payne Cemetery to get the thigh high grass and storm damage cleared for those of us with family laid to rest there. I’m especially grateful that you were able to get the top of my 3rd great grandma’s headstone back on the base.

Got the shock of my life when we visited the Payne Cemetery today. Evidently one of the recent tornados ripped up the pine trees there. There is one large tree which is tore up by it's roots & many headstones have been damaged. VFW could not even get in to place flags. It was sad to see such devastation to one of our cemeteries.
My husband & I are going down Saturday morning to do what we can but more help would be greatly appreciated. We will not be able to tackle the biggest jobs until it drys up some more but at least we can w**d eat, mow & pick up limbs.

With the warmer weather and Memorial Day coming up, many family members will be placing flowers on their loved ones gravesites. This makes the cemetery look wonderful.
We do encourage you to please follow the cemetery rules when decorating, these are posted on the shelter house. We must do this to make mowing easier and to keep the cemetery clutter free.
Also, your donations help to support the cemetery maintenance, so if you can help out with a donation, this would be greatly appreciated.
