In a world that often measures success by recognition and applause, Scripture reminds us of a higher calling to serve and labor for Christ with our whole heart in everything we do. Colossians 3:23 reads, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” Whether we're washing dishes, leading a business meeting, studying for exams, mowing the yard, or raising children, every task becomes sacred when we do it for the Lord. Think about your daily tasks—your job, your housework, your parenting, your schooling. Are you doing them as unto the Lord, or just going through the motions? Start today by dedicating your work to God in prayer. Even in routine or hidden labor, remind yourself that the Lord sees and rewards faithfulness. Strive to be excellent not to impress others, but to glorify Him.

Please pray for Joe Ness. Joe is Jen McKinley’s brother. His cancer has spread to his bones. He is still working but needs prayers for the treatments. We also have several families traveling this weekend for the holiday. Praise the Lord, my doctor confirms that my heart is back in rhythm. I am feeling much better and truly appreciate all your thoughts and prayers through the last three months.

Mark your calendars for our all-church fall potluck in two weeks, in two weeks after church on Sunday, September 20. Please bring a dish to pass and share. Good Food, good fellowship, and one church family.

Friends, Labor for the Master transforms how we approach even the most mundane duties. When we work with diligence, integrity, and excellence, we reflect the character of Christ to the world around us. We love you and will look for you on Sunday.

Our hearts can become troubled for many reasons. We worry about our families, health, finances, relationships, and the future. Sometimes our minds race ahead, imagining outcomes that have not happened. Jesus spoke to our fear and uncertainty in John 14:1. Jesus said, “Don’t let your heart be troubled. Believe in God. Believe also in me.”

Jesus was not telling His disciples to ignore their circumstances or pretend that everything was easy. He was directing their attention away from what they could not control and toward the One they could completely trust. A peaceful heart is not produced by having every answer. It grows from trusting the One who does.

Sunday School Promotion will take place at the close of the service, and we will have a special time of prayer for the new school year. Everyone is invited to a back-to-school bash Wednesday, Sept. 2 at 6:00 PM.

Daniel is probably a teenager. He’s separated from his parents, displaced in a new culture, and now lives in a massive city. Nebuchadnezzar scrubs them of all ties to their Hebrew past and gives them new Babylonian names. And under threat of death and promise of promotion, he demands Daniel and his friends abandon their Jewish laws about food. In the book of Daniel 1:8, “But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and w**e, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way.”

Daniel chooses obedience and faithfulness to God over worldly reward. And in response to Daniel’s faith, God makes Daniel gain weight on a diet of vegetables and water. God then gives him a higher capacity than any of his peers to understand the culture and literature of Babylon. They become blessings to the king’s court as his most trusted and competent advisors. Even in exile in a pagan world like ours, God remains true to his promises and raises his people up to bless the world.

Friends, Grange Fair week in Centre County. This week is a big reunion. As you attend the fair, look over the crowds and ask yourself, “How can I be a Daniel for these people?” The Lord honors that request and gives us the strength to witness to the love, grace, and mercy of God. As we go about our daily lives, we must not lose sight of this eternal perspective. In Luke 10:20, Jesus said, “However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” This profound statement comes after the disciples return from their mission with joy, marveling at the power they had over demons. Yet, Jesus redirects their focus from the temporal to the eternal.

The phrase "your names are written in heaven" signifies much more than a mere acknowledgment of identity; it represents our secure and permanent citizenship in God's kingdom. To have our names written in heaven means we are recognized, known, and cherished by the Almighty. Our heavenly registration is not based on our merits or achievements but solely on God's grace through faith in Christ. Our assurance fills our hearts with a deeper joy than any earthly success or spiritual victory. Knowing Heaven shapes our identity, guiding our actions and decisions and reminding us that we are not defined by what we do, but by who we are in Christ.

In a world where plans constantly change, Psalm 33:11 reminds us of a comforting truth: God’s purposes never fail. In Psalm 33:11, it reads, “But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.” Human plans are often affected by circumstances, limitations, and unforeseen events. We make decisions with incomplete knowledge, and even our best intentions can be disrupted. God, however, is never surprised, never uncertain, and never forced to adjust His purposes. His thoughts and intentions are not temporary or subject to change. They endure “to all generations,” demonstrating His faithfulness throughout history.

This truth provides great encouragement for believers. When life feels uncertain, we can rest in the confidence that God is still in control. Nations rise and fall, cultures change, and circumstances shift, but the Lord remains the same.

Please pray for Lori Taylor, who is still struggling with vertigo and pain. C***e Litz’s niece, Jody Nedd, passed away from a long battle with cancer this week. She was a believer, but please be in prayer for her family. Duane Lindburg was baptized at special needs camp earlier this summer. On Monday, Duane passed away from a cardiac event. Please be in prayer for Duane’s family and the special needs camp family. Duane’s services are Tuesday, August 11 at First Baptist Church in Bellefonte at 11 AM, and a lunch will be provided after the service.

Friends, whether in good times or hard times, God’s promises are trustworthy because they are rooted in His unchanging character. You are loved, redeemed, and part of his plans. We love you and will look for you on Sunday.
