Dr. Kenneth Royal Washington retired from Shell Oil Company in 1983, and became self-employed as co-owner of “Intercare” Residential Care facilities for the developmentally disabled. In 1989, he and his wife Karen continued in the care of the developmentally disabled by opening and operating “Royal Haven, Inc”. Dr. Washington is founder of “Literacy Volunteers of America, Houston, Inc.”, served as
president of “P.A.L.” (Progressive Action League), and was one of the organizers of “The Achievers”, where he mentored black male students at Katy High School. Dr. Washington served as president of the Board of Oxford Counseling center, Houston, and has carried out numerous speaking engagements throughout the city of Houston. As well as being dedicated in his service to the church, he has mentored many youth within and outside of the church. Dr. Washington received a Bachelor of Science Degree from The University of Houston in 1978. He was granted the Degree of Master of Divinity at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in May 1996. The Degree of Doctor of Ministry was conferred upon him in May 2000 from Houston Graduate School of Theology. At his home in 1996, Dr. Washington shared with his friends, a vision that the lord had given him to build a church with evangelism at its core. In October 1996, he was established as Pastor of First New Hope Bible Church. Dr. Washington has committed himself to the work of the ministry and is the full time Pastor of First New Hope Bible Church. He is teacher in the Klein ISD where he is now a Special Education Teacher at Nitsch Elementary School. Dr. Washington is the devoted husband of Karen and the father of four girls: Bianca, Brandi, Khaila, and Kiirah.
