🔥 Happy Feast of St. Augustine! This philosopher, bishop and Church Father, had a long period of personal struggle before he found Christ and dedicated his life to the teaching of truth. Pope Benedict XVI says, “In the end, not without long inner torment, he found Christ the ultimate and full meaning of his own life and of the whole of human history.” St. Augustine, pray for us!

Happy Birthday Bishop Simon Peter!! May God bless you. We are grateful for your leadership in our diocese and continue to pray for you.

Happy 55th Birthday, Bishop Simon Peter! 🎉

Most Rev. Simon Peter Engurait was born in Ngora, a small town in eastern Uganda, the seventh of 14 children. Today, he shepherds the faithful of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux, an ocean away from the parish where he first served at the altar as a boy.

His birthday falls on the memorial of St. Augustine, a saint whose words have special meaning for him. When he was introduced to our diocese as bishop-elect, he shared this reflection from St. Augustine: “For you I am a bishop, but with you I am a Christian. The first is an office accepted; the second is a gift received.”

Today, we give thanks for the gift of Bishop Simon Peter and for the faith, joy and pastoral care he brings to our diocesan family.

Happy birthday, Bishop! Our prayers are with you today and every day! 🙏

Daily prayer for Clergy and Religious

Lord Jesus, hear our prayer for the spiritual renewal of the bishops, priests, deacons, brothers, sisters, lay ministers and seminarians of the diocese of Houma-Thibodaux. We praise You for giving their ministry to the Church. In these days, renew them with the gifts of Your Spirit.

You once opened the Holy Scriptures to Your disciples when You walked on this earth. Now renew your ordained and chosen ones with the truth and power of Your Word.

In Eucharist You gave Your disciples renewed life and hope. Nourish Your consecrated ones with Your own Body and Blood. Help them to imitate in their lives the death and resurrection they celebrate around Your altar.

Give them enthusiasm for the Gospel, zeal for the salvation of all people, courage in leadership and humility in service.

Give them Your love for one another and for all their brothers and sisters in You. For You love them, Lord Jesus, and we love and pray for them in Your Holy Name, today especially for Rev. Alexis (Alex) Lazarra.

Join our Filipino-American Catholic community of the diocese for the annual Feast of the Filipino Saints, honoring St. Lorenzo Ruiz and St. Pedro Calungsod, the two canonized Filipino saints.

Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Simon Peter Engurait, Fr. Patrick Riviere, priests of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux and visiting clergy.
