Sharing my heart! Why do we have an Easter egg hunt for our Downtown? About seven years ago, I was helping someone collect Easter things for a kids' event. We were talking about boiled eggs because we were going to feed our downtown friends, so I was going to boil eggs for them, maybe make some deviled eggs. Well, I felt like the Lord laid on my heart to have an Easter egg hunt for our Downtown friends, so I battled with it a little bit. I went back and told someone very close to me, and they said, 'Why in the world would you have an Easter egg hunt for adults?' So I thought it was a stupid idea. We did not have the Easter egg hunt that year. A couple of other times, I felt like the Lord was laying on my heart to have the Easter egg hunt still. Then, of course, my guys loved boiled eggs around Easter time. By the next year, my guys were asking me if I would make them boiled eggs again. One of them said, 'Miss Trish, I love to watch kids hunt Easter eggs. I never got to hunt eggs when I was a kid.' I knew a little bit about his story, which was kind of sad. He didn’t have loving parents, and he had a lot of trauma in his life. So, the more I thought about it, the more I felt like it was late on my heart. The more I decided, who wouldn’t want to have an Easter egg hunt? Young or old, most of our Downtown friends have been through trauma, and their minds kind of stopped growing at that trauma stage. So, we boiled eggs and colored them. We had prize eggs that were five-dollar gift cards. We also had prize eggs that were things like bug spray, lotion, sunglasses, hats, and things like that, and of course, chocolate bunnies. We grilled, and we had worship music. I think it was the funnest event I had ever had. I watched people laugh. I saw people cry over opening a simple candy egg. I saw so much joy that day that I knew from then on I would continue to have an Easter egg hunt for our Downtown friends every single year. It has gotten bigger. Lots of people show up, not just our downtown friends, but elderly people, and of course, there are always children that show up. But the event has gotten so big that we need your help. We need lots of things for the Easter egg hunt to make it successful. We need $5 gift cards. We need prizes. Backpacks. Bug spray. We need plastic candy eggs. We need lots of Walmart bags so people can hunt. We need seven people to make a pan of potato salad. We need six people to make a pan of barbecue beans. We need seven pans of banana pudding. We need cases of soda. We need people to show up. We’re going to need people to haul tables and chairs. If you would like to be a part of this event, please get in touch with me. We just want to love on people and show them they are valuable. ❤️
