Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace

Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace Aloha and welcome to the page for the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace! Damien of Molokai and the full mortal remains of St. Marianne of Molokai.

The Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace, dedicated on August 15, 1843, is the oldest Cathedral in continuous use as a cathedral in the United States and is the Mother Church of the Catholic Faithful in Hawaii. The Cathedral Basilica is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is home to a first-class relic of St. It also houses the oldest operating tower clock and one of the oldest pipe organs in Hawaii, and has a memorial of the first Kiawe (Algaroba) tree in the islands which stood on the church campus. Many come to the Cathedral Basilica for peace, serenity, and most importantly as a place to connect with God. Our Mission
We, The Christian Faithful of the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace, mother church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Honolulu, strengthen our community of faith as the center of liturgical celebration, Catholic religious education, stewardship, and outreach. We embrace the legacy of our rich history in moving to the future. Ke ola mau ka mana'oi'o (the faith is everlasting).

A message from Bishop Michael T. T. Castori, S.J.:

Today the new bishops celebrated Holy Mass at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore and offered the Mass for the safety, well being and protection of the peoples of our dioceses, so I lifted up especially our wonderful people, asking the Blessed Virgin Mary to protect us all from the storm. It was consoling to find the statue inside the Basilica to our Blessed Mother entitled, "Ave Regina Pacis," (Hail, Queen of Peace!)

As Hurricane Lowell approaches the Hawaiian Islands and its effects begin to be felt across our state, we continue to pray for the safety and protection of all our island communities.

Heavy rainfall, flooding, dangerous surf, and strong winds are expected as Lowell passes near the islands.

We encourage our parishioners and the wider community to remain attentive to local news media, emergency management and government officials, and official weather updates; to complete all necessary preparations; and to look out for one another, especially our kลซpuna and those who may need assistance.

A message from Bishop Michael T. T. Castori, S.J.:

Aloha from Assisi! I am in Rome for a formation course for new bishops, and yesterday we made a pilgrimage together to Assisi to celebrate Mass at the Basilica to mark the 800th Anniversary of the death of St. Francis. Such a powerful and inspiring experience to celebrate St. Francis with bishops of the Universal Church! I am praying through the intercession of Our Lady of Peace, St. Damien, St. Marianne, St. Francis, St. Clare and all the saints for abundant blessings on our wonderful Diocese, and in a special way at this time for the protection from the approaching storm of all our people. Lord, keep us safe!

Although its exact track remains uncertain, Lowell could bring strong winds, heavy rainfall, dangerous surf, and other impacts to portions of the state early next week.

We encourage our parishioners and the wider community to remain attentive to local news media, government and emergency-management officials, and official weather updatesโ€”and to ensure that their hurricane plans and emergency supplies are in place.

As we prepare, we invite everyone to join us in prayer, asking for the intercession of Our Lady of Peace, patroness of our Cathedral Basilica and of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Honolulu, for the protection of our islands and all who may be affected by the storm.

Please continue to follow the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace on Facebook and Instagram and visit our website for updates regarding any changes to Masses, parish services, or activities as conditions develop.

May God watch over Hawaii and keep all our people safe.

Our Lady of Peace, pray for us.
