🌺 I Have a Question 🌺
Do You Stand Out?
Recently, Clark and I were at the beach. As I watched him out in the water with all the other swimmers, I realized something that made me laugh. 😂
Clark was really easy to spot!
There were people scattered all through the water, but all I had to do was look for that white hair. 👨🦳 I always knew exactly where he was.
Later, it made me think about something much more important.
How do we stand out in this world?
When people look at us, when they spend time with us, when they hear the way we speak and see the way we treat others—can they tell that we belong to Jesus Christ?
Jesus said:
“By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
— John 13:35 NKJV
Jesus told us there should be something recognizable about His followers.
Love.
But what does that look like in everyday life?
Maybe it is showing kindness when someone isn't kind to us. Forgiving when we have every reason to remain angry. Having peace when everything around us seems uncertain. Helping someone when there is nothing in it for us. Refusing to join in gossip. Showing patience when ours is being tested. Choosing our words carefully when it would be much easier to say what we are thinking.
The Bible tells us:
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.”
— Galatians 5:22–23 NKJV
These aren't just qualities we should know about.
They should be visible in our lives.
That doesn't mean Christians are perfect. We aren't. We make mistakes. We have bad days. Sometimes we lose our patience, say the wrong thing, or respond in a way that doesn't look very much like Jesus at all.
But as we grow closer to Him, there should increasingly be something different about us.
And perhaps the people who know us best are the ones who can see that difference most clearly.
Standing out for Christ doesn't mean drawing attention to ourselves. It means living in such a way that our lives draw attention to Him.
Clark stood out in that ocean because of something everyone could see—his white hair. 😂👨🦳
That leaves me with a much more important question for myself:
When people look at my life, what do they see?
Do they see enough love, joy, peace, kindness, patience, forgiveness and grace to recognize that I belong to Jesus?
And so this week...
I Have a Question: Do You Stand Out?
Not because you tell people you're a Christian.
But because they can see Jesus in you.
