We had a wonderful weekend at VBC !!! God is so good to us! Thankful for safety as we invited others to church at the Liberty Festival in Holly Ridge Saturday! It was a hot day but glad to serve others with gladness !!! Thankful for the messages in both services! Looking forward to our Hero Sunday ( recognizing first responders) this coming Sunday!! Come join us for service at 11am and lunch to follow!

Day 3 — Put God First

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 16:2 (KJV)

“Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him…”

Giving should never be an afterthought.

Paul taught the Corinthians to give intentionally, regularly, and proportionately.

We can see four principles from this verse: giving was to occur on the first day of the week, involve every believer, correspond to God’s prosperity, and be set aside systematically rather than collected at the last minute. (Jason Stoeber )

There is a tremendous spiritual principle here:

God should not receive our leftovers.

It is easy to arrange everything else first.

Pay the bills.
Buy what we want.
Make our plans.
Spend what is available.

Then we look at what remains and decide what God can have.

But biblical stewardship reverses the order.

God first.

The lesson connects this with the principle of firstfruits: God’s portion is deliberately set aside before everything else is arranged. (Jason Stoeber)

But this principle reaches beyond our finances.

Give God the first of your day.

Give God the first place in your decisions.

Give God the first consideration in your plans.

Give God the first claim upon your resources.

Jesus said in Matthew 6:33:

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

The question of stewardship is not simply:

“Does God have a place in my life?”

The better question is:

“Does God have first place in my life?”

Consider

Look at your priorities today.

What gets the first of your time, attention, energy, and resources?

Faithful stewardship says: God first. Everything else afterward.

“Faithful With What You Have”

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 4:2 (KJV)

“Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.”

God does not require everyone to possess the same amount.

Some have more money than others.
Some have more ability.
Some have more opportunities.
Some have more influence.
Some have more time.

But there is one requirement God places upon every steward:

Be faithful.

Jesus’ teaching concerning servants and talents focuses not on how much a person receives, but what that person does with what he/she has received. (Jason Stoeber)

That means comparison is unnecessary.

God will not hold me accountable for what He placed in someone else’s hands.

He will hold me accountable for what He placed in mine.

Maybe you cannot give what someone else gives.

Be faithful with what you can give.

Maybe you cannot do what someone else does.

Be faithful with what you can do.

Maybe you do not have the opportunities another person has.

Be faithful with the opportunity God has placed before you.

Faithfulness is not measured by the size of what we possess. It is measured by what we do with what God has entrusted to us.

This is why the widow’s mite was so significant. The amount was small, but the sacrifice was great.
God was looking beyond the amount of her gift to the heart and sacrifice behind it. (Jason Stoeber)

God is not looking for impressive stewards.

He is looking for faithful ones.

Consider

Instead of asking, “Why don’t I have what they have?”, ask:

“Am I being faithful with what God has given me?”

You may not have much.

But whatever God has placed in your hands is enough for you to be faithful today.

Faithful Giving: A look at Biblical Stewardship

Day 1 — It All Belongs to Him

Scripture: Psalm 24:1 (KJV)

“The earth is the LORD’S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.”

There is one truth that changes everything about Christian stewardship: God owns it all.

We usually speak about our house, our car, our paycheck, our abilities, and our time. There is nothing necessarily wrong with speaking that way, but biblically we must remember that underneath all of those things is a greater reality—they ultimately belong to God.

The lesson points out that this includes our homes, cars, businesses, paychecks, abilities, strength, opportunities, and even life itself. Stewardship begins when the issue of ownership is settled.

That changes the question.

Instead of asking:

“What do I want to do with what I have?”

The Christian begins asking:

“Lord, this belongs to You. What do You want me to do with it?”

That applies to far more than the offering plate.

My time belongs to Him.
My talents belong to Him.
My strength belongs to Him.
My opportunities belong to Him.
My possessions belong to Him.
My life belongs to Him.

David expressed this truth in 1 Chronicles 29:14:

“But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee.”

David understood that when we give something to God, we are not really giving God something that was ours.

We are simply returning to Him something that was His all along.

Consider

What area of your life are you still treating as though it belongs entirely to you?

Perhaps biblical stewardship begins today with a simple prayer:

“Lord, it is Yours. What would You have me do with it?”
