1 Peter 2:9 tells us that we've been called out of darkness into God's wonderful light. But, darkness will often rise up within us because we open the door to darkness in our lives through ways that include anger that we cling to, temptation that we flirt with, or the worldly treasures that we covet. But God's Word also warns us that the kingdom of darkness will rise up against us. And we need to be prepared to recognize and stand with authority against the darkness and the spiritual attacks that we will face.

Tomorrow, we'll be sharing communion and reflecting on the incredible gift of forgiveness and newness of life that we have received through Jesus' sacrifice. Then after church, we'll have a covered dish luncheon. Everyone is invited to stick around and share lunch with friends from church. If you can, bring something to share. We all face the need in our life to make important decisions and we need wisdom to make good choices. And there are also issues which are constantly arising in the world that we need to consider and seek to position ourselves on the side of the issue that reflects God’s Kingdom. Sometimes that can be complicated, and that’s what makes the promise of wisdom found in James 1 an important promise that we need to know and learn to stand on.

There are often challenges before us that seem impossible to overcome or expectations that seem impossible to meet. They reveal the limits that we can go in our own strength. But in Christ, those limits are opportunities to wait on God, trust in Him, and press forward in faith. Because while you may not be able to do all things, through Christ you can do all things that God calls you to do. Consider the "impossible" challenge or expectation you being called to do or fulfill and wait on God, trust in Him, and press forward in faith. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.

There will be times in every relationship that others will cross a boundary or step over a line that God has set and they will sin against you. And in turn, there will certainly be times when you will sin against others. And in His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus gives us a promise and warning about the important need we have to forgive others and guard our heart from the trap that unforgiveness seeks to set.

By His very nature, the Lord is good. It is a part of His character. He can't help but be good in the same way that water can't help but be wet. And not only is He good, but He pours out His goodness on those who wait for Him and seek Him. And the picture that we need to see isn't one of God turning a "faucet" on and off, pouring out His goodness on select people. His goodness is always flowing. The question is simply, "Are you positioned to receive the goodness that is coming from God?" Choose to move closer to where God's goodness is flowing. Seek Him and wait for Him. Which means to "bind yourself to Him," and you'll find yourself enjoying an abundance of the Lord's goodness.

It's not uncommon to watch the news or see reports online of protesters with megaphones shouting into the faces of other people as they seek to intimidate while they make attempts to inform. And while they may be committed to their message, their methods do more to hinder than to help others listen to what they are saying. But as we seek to follow Jesus, we need to be clearly aware that methods matter and the only way to accomplish anything of value is to do so in the strength and power that comes from Christ. If we want to leave this world having lived meaningful, fruitful lives, it means that we don't need to be the loudest voice in the room. Instead, it means that we've taken the time to cultivate a heart and life that is joined to Jesus long before we've spoken a word or sought to do anything of significance.

Most believers would associate God with love. 1 John 4:8 tells us that God is love and John 3:16 tells us that because of God's love for mankind that He sent Jesus into the world. But even while those two key passages clearly express the loving character of God, many can struggle to believe that God loves them because our sin stirs up guilt and shame in our lives that seeks to push us away from the God who loves us. And we need to be reminded of God's unshakeable love and encouraged to stand on the promise that nothing can ever separate us from the love of God.

Congratulations to Chase and Lauren Fox who were married yesterday at Hundred Wood Hollow Farm in East Freedom. May God bless them as they step into this new season of life as husband and wife that they will discover and build together.
