There are many ways that pride can bring conflict or even destruction into your relationships. And while we can be quick to recognize pride in others, it can be hard to recognize it in ourselves. But it is crucial to be able to guard our homes and relationships from the danger pride poses. And that requires not only recognizing pride and seeking to remove it from our lives, but by replacing it with Christ-like humility.

Our commitment to our family does need to be a priority in our lives, but it’s also crucial to develop and maintain strong, healthy friendships. Without them, we can’t be and do everything that God calls us to. And though we often settle for watered down, even shallow friendships, God's Word reveals how we can develop friendships that have real depth that can help to shape our lives and build our faith.

God’s Word describes children as a blessing from God and the goal of good parenting is to produce wise children who know and honor God with their lives. But, raising children can be the hardest job you’ve ever had and kids don’t come with an owner’s manual. And what works with one child won’t necessarily work with another. So, it’s important to know what God’s Word tells us about raising children and being a parent, whether those children are young or whether they have grown and have children of their own.

This verse is often quoted when thinking about those who deny that there is a God. Believers look at the world and the incredible beauty of Creation and can't help but see God's fingerprints all over it. So yes, it seems foolish and unwise to deny the existence of God. But, what about believers who recognize that God exists but live some portion or much of their life as if He doesn't? If you acknowledge that there's a God but you allow anxiousness to fill your heart or mind, you're living as if there is no God. Some refer to that as being a Christian atheist. And the same applies to believers who entertain themselves in the same way that the world does or who allow their flesh to pull them into compromises with little or no struggle. Fools may say that there is not God, but as followers of Jesus, we need to be sure that our lives reflect our belief that there is a God. So, seek to live today, filter each thought, each desire, each choice through your understanding that not only that God exists but that you have the opportunity to glorify Him in all you do and see how that changes the way your live.

Whether you recognize it or not, your family is on the front lines of a very real spiritual battle. And as followers of Jesus, we need to guard our family by continuing to walk with God and by applying the principles found in God’s Word to our lives and to our homes. And that starts with going back to the beginning, looking at marriage which is the very foundation of the family, and seeing what we can learn about why God created marriage, how God defines marriage, and the important differences that God built into husbands and wives.

Modern life, especially for mothers is filled with urgent responsibilities and unending tasks that can’t be ignored. There’s always something that needs to be cleaned, an errand that needs to be run, and an emergency that needs attention. And God has hard wired women to nurture, care, and sacrifice. But the story of Martha and Mary reveals an important choice that mothers and woman need to make to be able to love their families from a place of spiritual abundance rather than from exhaustion or discouragement.

"Actively Wait On God" - Few people find that they don't struggle when they need to wait. And when the waiting grows long or the issue is pressing, it gets even harder. Proverbs 13:12 conveys the difficulty we can have if we’re not prepared to wait on God, saying “Hope deferred makes the heart sick.” BUT, if we cultivate the habit or the discipline that’s needed to wait on God, we can find the strength that will enable us to face each struggle with patience and hope.

Even before Romans 8 brings us to these two powerful and comforting verses, the Apostle Paul asks this important question: "If God is for us, who can be against us?" That's more than enough to shift our thinking away from all of the struggles we face that often seems to rise up against us like a storm. But the passage continues and Paul reminds us that not only is God for us, but that nothing can ever separate us from the love that He's shown to us through the life and death of Jesus. So, not only is God for us and nothing can ever separate us from God's love, and not only are we conquerors, but we are MORE than conquerors because of His love for us. We just need to put our trust in the truth more than we believe what our struggles are trying to tell us. We are forever joined to God and His love, and we are cannot and will not be overcome or defeated.

"Self-Examination and Confession" - There is no greater threat to the spiritual health of your heart than sin and its deceitfulness. Even the "little" sins and cares of this world have the potential to harden your heart, slowly erode your faith, and draw you away from Jesus. But we can protect the health of our heart by cultivating the habits of self-examination and confession.
