Daniel was taken from his home and placed in one of the greatest cities of his dayā€”a culture filled with opportunity, influence, power, and beauty, but also a culture that did not honor the one true living God.

Daniel didnā€™t choose Babylon. Yet he didnā€™t merely survive thereā€”he THRIVED.

He lived with conviction without becoming bitter. He served with excellence without compromising. He demonstrated courage when his faith was challenged. He influenced kings and kingdoms. And through his life, people who did not know God began to recognize the power of the Living God.

What was his secret?

Daniel lived in Babylon, but Babylon never lived in him.

He had another spirit.

Behind Danielā€™s public influence was a consistent private life of prayer. Again and again, he returned to the presence of Godā€”and from that place came wisdom, strength, courage, character, and an excellent spirit.

Over the next several weeks, weā€™re going to discover how we can do the same.

If Jesus is a far greater source of strength than coffee, tea, or energy drinks, why are the drive-thru lines at Starbucks and Dutch Bros always packed while churches are relatively empty?

Maybe the difference is this:

Coffee, tea, and energy drinks give us energy to do OUR will.
The Holy Spirit gives us power to do HIS will.

God is the ultimate source of life, strength, and vitality. Yet many of us are more comfortable reaching for a temporary source of energy because it asks nothing of us. Surrender does.

Following Jesus means surrendering our plans, desires, and dreams to His greater purpose. That surrender may be difficult in the moment, but it produces rewards that caffeine never couldā€”purpose, transformation, peace, spiritual power, and ultimately, eternal life.

So grab your coffee. Enjoy your tea. Drink your energy drink if thatā€™s your thing. ā˜•ļø

But donā€™t settle for something that only wakes up your body when Jesus wants to awaken your soul.

The temporary struggle of surrender is worth the eternal reward.

And yesā€”you can still enjoy your coffee while doing the will of God. šŸ˜Š
