We're so pleased to share that Rev. Daniel Smith-Toven, CFC has been called as our Priest in Charge beginning 1 July 2026. Our interim priest Mother Jan is staying on through the transition this summer to ensure all our services, parish and cadet, are covered.

Fr. Daniel comes to us from across the river where he served as assistant priest in the recently formed Southern Dutchess Collaborative of three Episcopal parishes. He is a professed member of the Community of Francis and Clare, a world-wide Anglican Franciscan order of men and women who vow to live by the virtues of Simplicity, Fidelity, and Humility.

Prior to his ordination to the priesthood in January 2025, Fr. Daniel served 22 years as a band officer in the United States Army, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He conducted all the major Army bands and choruses, culminating his career as the commander and conductor of the West Point Band. Fr. Daniel continues directing the West Point Glee Club.

Fr. Daniel is married to Mr. Kevin Smith-Toven. Kevin, a civil engineer, works in water infrastructure and climate adaptation. He is passionate about ensuring that everyone has access to clean drinking water.

Fr. Daniel comes to this call with great enthusiasm for building community and serving all people. His and Kevin’s great affection for the Hudson Valley, and his deep connection to the military community and West Point, make the call to serve the Highland Falls-Fort Montgomery-West Point community in a unified way a true gift from God!

"God the King of Glory, in whose hands are the living and the dead: We give you thanks for all those who have laid down their lives in the service of our country. Grant them your mercy and the light of your presence; and give us a sense of your will and purpose, that we may understand that the work you have begun in them will be perfected through Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, in whom all strife is resolved. Amen." - Enriching Our Worship 3

"I know the news is full of reasons to be anxious, but I am going to stay positive for a while longer. Why? Because I have seen the worst of human nature so I have no illusions about how bad things could get. On the other hand I have seen the best we can do as human beings and consequently I know how good things could get. All that stands between us and a hopeful future is ourselves. If we can put down fear, anger and greed, and pick up faith, love and compassion: we can turn our own history into a peace such as we have known only rarely in our lives. Will we ever do that? Yes, absolutely, why not? The stubborn will of the Spirit within me will not let me give up on us. As long as we have a choice, we have a chance."
-The Rt. Rev. Steven Charleston
