Shabbat Shalom! ✡

Tomorrow morning’s Young Families Shabbat puts the spotlight on the kids.

That means toys and kid snacks in the back of the sanctuary, a kiddush packed with Super Bowl–themed snacks, and falafel—because the first Israeli bobsled team going to the Olympics deserves a little Shabbat shout-out❄️

Come daven, snack, schmooze, and let the kids be kids. We’d love to see your whole crew there! 💙

The second night of Hanukkah brought CBE and Beth Emeth Early Childhood Center (BEECC) to the Pozez JCC of Northern Virginia. We had a great time making our own light with lantern decorating and beaded glow stick bracelets.

As we see world events unfolding, at Brown, in California, Australia, and the Netherlands, we remember the words of Al Hanissim inserted into the Amidah and Birchat HaMazon during Hanukkah: "You stood by them (the Maccabees) in the time of their distress. You waged their battles, defended their rights, and avenged the wrong done to them. You delivered the mighty into the hands of the weak, the many into the hands of the few, the impure into the hands of the pure, the wicked into the hands of the righteous."

We similarly pray that God will be with the victims, their families, their communities, and with us. Hanukkah is the holiday of rededication. Let us rededicate ourselves to the courage and faith shown by our ancestors as we meet the eternal darkness with our eternal light.

As Jewish communities around the world mourn and react, CBE thanks those who have been a light and support to our local community. In particular, we appreciate the quick outreach and frequent presence from the Fairfax County Police Department.

Sunday mornings always have so much going on at CBE! This morning, we had our senior Balance and Stretch class, the Sisterhood knitting and crochet club, and final preparations for our Hanukkah boutique … not to mention the Sisterhood brunch and Men’s Club steak dinner happening this afternoon.

And join us next week for the opening of the boutique before we head over to Gesher Jewish Day School for their Israel Baseball double-header!
