Meet The Resolute AmStaff, my mixed-media American Staffordshire Terrier portrait created for Dogust!

I made this artwork with a mechanical pencil, kneaded eraser, watercolor pen, and acrylic paint pen. After completing the traditional drawing, I edited it with Snapseed and Procreate to prepare it for its final presentation.

I chose the word “resolute” because it reflects the determination, confidence, and unwavering loyalty associated with the American Staffordshire Terrier. I wanted the portrait to celebrate the strength of the breed while also recognizing the affectionate companion behind its powerful appearance.

🎨🐾🌸 PAWS, PETALS & POSSIBILITIES — NEARLY SEVEN YEARS OF MY ART IN ONE COLLAGE!

I’m excited to share my completed 2026 art collage, Paws, Petals & Possibilities, featuring artwork I created from October 2019 through July 2026!

Looking at everything together is like seeing nearly seven years of my artistic journey all at once. There are plenty of dogs and flowers throughout the collage, but you’ll also find landscapes, fantasy artwork, characters, family-history illustrations, abstract pieces, art challenge creations, and other experiments from throughout the years.

The individual artwork was created using Procreate, watercolor, acrylic, India ink, colored pencil, charcoal, alcohol marker, fineliner pen, and mixed media. I then used GIMP to bring everything together into the finished collage.

There are even a few pieces included that I never previously uploaded online, primarily drawings from Dogust 2024!

🐾 Paws represents the dogs and animals that have become such a major part of my artwork.

🌸 Petals represents my flower and botanical artwork.

🎨 Possibilities represents everything else I’ve explored—and all of the creative possibilities still ahead.

Since completing the collage, I’ve also turned sections into new social media banners, created a slideshow showing the artwork being added, written a full behind-the-scenes blog post, made the artwork available through The Artistic Shepherd, and created a 16-product merchandise collection!

🐾🎨 New Dogust 2026 Artwork: The Steadfast Drever!

Another dog has joined my Dogust 2026 collection!

Meet The Steadfast Drever, my mixed-media portrait celebrating the distinctive Swedish Drever. I wanted the long ears, warm brown-and-white coat, and calm but determined expression to take center stage, with a deep blue background helping the dog stand out.

I created this piece with a mechanical pencil, kneaded eraser, India ink pen, fineliner pen, watercolor pen, and acrylic paint pen. After completing the traditional artwork, I edited it using Snapseed and Procreate.

I finished The Steadfast Drever on August 27, 2026.

🐕🎨 The Watchful Dunker | Dogust 2026

My latest Dogust artwork is finished! Meet The Watchful Dunker, a mixed-media portrait of a Dunker, a distinctive Norwegian hound.

I created this piece using a mechanical pencil, kneaded eraser, watercolor pen, and acrylic paint pen, then edited the finished artwork with Snapseed and Procreate.

I also have an update on my Dogust 2026 plans. When I started the challenge, I originally planned to create 31 dog drawings throughout August. Since I haven't been able to keep up with that schedule, I've decided to scale the challenge back rather than rush through the artwork.

Drawing 1 was already completed separately on its own sheet of paper. For the rest of my revised Dogust challenge, I'm creating six additional dog artworks together on one sheet of paper, bringing my updated Dogust collection to seven finished drawings total.

I'm excited to see how the six portraits on the new sheet look together once they're all finished! 🐾

🐱🃏 NEW BARKER’S OF RUIN ARTWORK: LITTER LORDS!

My latest Barker’s of Ruin artwork is Litter Lords, featuring Catrick the Cheat sitting comfortably in the middle of one of his chaotic games!

I created this piece digitally in Procreate, filling the scene with playing cards, dice, Elimino pieces, gems, garbage, and Catrick’s litter-box arena.

🎲 But what exactly is Litter Lords?

Litter Lords is one of nine games associated with Catrick the Cheat and one of the eight games heroes can encounter during Phase 1 of his boss battle.

The heroes play using rules inspired by the card game Garbage, but cards higher than an 8 can be discarded to draw from Catrick’s Elimino deck or his top Elimino discard. Heroes also have individual discard piles and can take the top card from their own pile or an ally’s.

Meanwhile, Catrick attacks with dice—and the closer he gets to winning, the stronger he becomes.

He starts at only 0.5× damage, but eventually reaches 3× damage while forcing damaged heroes to randomly discard four cards!

And surviving Litter Lords is only part of the battle.

☠️ Phase 2 introduces Undead Tabbies, where heroes who died during Phase 1 become zombies that Catrick can clone.

🐾 Dogust Drawing 2 is here!

“The Steady Jämthund” celebrates the quiet confidence, wolf-like features, and dependable character of this remarkable Scandinavian dog breed.

I created this mixed-media portrait with a mechanical pencil, kneaded eraser, watercolor pen, fine liner pen, and acrylic paint pen. I then edited the finished artwork with Snapseed and Procreate.

This is one of six 4-by-5-inch drawings being created on the same 11-by-14-inch sheet of paper. Open-edition prints of the individual Jämthund portrait are available now. I will post the complete original artwork for sale after I finish the other five drawings on the sheet.

🐾 Piper's Gentle Gaze | Dogust 2026 Day 1: Mutt

Dogust 2026 has officially begun, and I'm excited to share the very first artwork in this month's challenge!

For Day 1: Mutt, I created Piper's Gentle Gaze, a mixed-media portrait of my family's beloved dog, Piper. As a mixed-breed dog with a gentle personality and expressive eyes, she was the perfect subject to kick off a month dedicated to celebrating dogs through art.

This artwork was created using:

🎨 Watercolor Pen
🖊️ Acrylic Paint Pen

After completing the traditional artwork, I made the final adjustments using Snapseed to prepare it for sharing and printing.

This is only the beginning! Throughout August, I'll be creating 31 original mixed-media dog portraits, each inspired by a different Dogust prompt. I'm looking forward to sharing every drawing, along with behind-the-scenes videos, progress updates, and new products featuring each artwork.

🌊 New Artwork: The Kansas River Flood of 1903 🌊

One of my favorite parts of illustrating The Biography of Earl Dewey Fisher is bringing real family memories to life through traditional art.

My newest piece, The Kansas River Flood of 1903, was created for Episode 4: Early Memories Near Topeka. It illustrates one of Earl's earliest childhood memories as he and his siblings watched an entire house float down the flooded Kansas River during the historic Kansas River Flood of 1903.

Although Earl's family lived far enough away from the river to remain safe, the flood left a lasting impression on him. More than a century later, his firsthand account inspired this illustration, helping preserve both a remarkable family story and an important moment in Kansas history.

Family stories are often preserved through photographs and written records, but sometimes they survive through the memories of those who lived them. Myrtle’s Responsibility was created for The Biography of Earl Dewey Fisher | Episode 3: Brothers and Sisters and illustrates one of Earl’s earliest memories: his oldest sister, Myrtle, caring for him while their mother tended to his younger sister, Lillian.

Although Myrtle was only eleven years old, she took on the important responsibility of helping care for her younger siblings. Through this mixed-media illustration, I wanted to honor the love, sacrifice, and family bonds that shaped Earl’s childhood.

This piece was created with a mechanical pencil, kneaded eraser, colored pencil, India ink pen, fine liner pen, and acrylic paint pen, then edited in Snapseed.
