This!
Repeat after me:
Church is not for me or my pleasure.
It is for the glory of Christ.
Church is not here to make me happy.
It is here for me to serve others, lead people to Christ, and help make disciples.
Church is not primarily about what I get.
It is about what I give.
Church is not about finding people who meet all my needs.
It is about becoming someone who helps meet the needs of others.
Church is not about whether I like every song, sermon, program, decision, or person.
It is about Christ being exalted and His people being built up.
Church is not a weekly event I attend as a consumer.
It is a body I belong to and a family I serve.
"For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45
Jesus did not come asking, “What can everyone do for Me?” He came to serve. If we are following Him, shouldn't we have the same attitude?
“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” Philippians 2:3
“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another.” 1 Peter 4:10
“And he gave…the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ.” Ephesians 4:11–12
So instead of coming to church asking:
Did I like the sermon?
Did I like the music?
Did people notice me?
Did anyone encourage me?
Did I get anything out of it?
Maybe we should come asking:
Who can I encourage?
Who can I serve?
Who needs prayer?
Who needs to hear about Christ?
How can I use my gifts to strengthen this body?
How can my life bring greater glory to Jesus?
👉Because ultimately, church isn't about us.
“To him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” — Ephesians 3:21
Church exists for the glory of Christ. And we have the privilege of serving Him by serving His people and making disciples.
If you take all of this to heart, you will find a lot more joy in church Sunday morning. ❤️
