Faith United Church of Christ Faith United Church of Christ was established in 1907 in East Chicago, Indiana. In 1964 they moved to Hammond and have been serving the community for 118 years.

Our worship service is held at 10:00 a.m. on Sundays. Our pastor is Lane Cornforth.

Loving God, we stand before you, eager to be restored to full energy and full capacity to forgive so we might grow in loving ourselves, loving one another, and loving you. Renew us in this hour with full confidence, believing you forgive us our (debts/trespasses), even as we claim your strength to forgive one another. Amen.

Dear Lord, like Peter, I come before you today with a question about forgiveness. How many times should I forgive my brother who has sinned against me? Should it be seven times? Lord, I pray that you give me the strength and grace to forgive not just seven times but seventy times seven. Help me to let go of any bitterness or resentment in my heart and to extend your love and mercy to those who have wronged me. Thank you for your forgiveness towards me, and may I reflect that same forgiveness to others. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen

Loving God, help us. When we have run away, when we have turned our backs on love, when we have sought immediate satisfaction and not long-term healing, help us.

Merciful God, forgive us. When we have been selfish, when we have been mean, when we have closed our ears to the cries of others, forgive us.

Powerful God, heal us. When we are so broken we cannot move, when we don’t know how to stem the bleeding of our wounds, when we are too ashamed to seek community, heal us.

Give us the courage, the strength, and the hope to accept your grace and hear your call in Christ.
Amen.

I come before You with humility, knowing that I need Your grace and mercy. Thank You for loving me even when I fall short and for sending Jesus Christ to save me.

Lord, search my heart and reveal anything that separates me from You. Forgive my sins, cleanse me from all unrighteousness, and create in me a clean heart. Renew my mind and fill me with Your Holy Spirit.

Help me to let go of guilt, bitterness, pride, fear, and every burden that keeps me from walking closely with You. Strengthen my faith when I am weak, guide me when I am confused, and remind me that Your love never fails.

Teach me to hunger for Your Word, to spend time with You in prayer, and to obey Your will each day. Fill my heart with Your peace, joy, and hope so that my life will reflect Your goodness.
Lord, restore my relationship with You. Help me forgive those who have hurt me, love others as You have loved me, and become a faithful witness of Your grace.

Thank You for Your forgiveness, Your unfailing love, and the new life I have through Jesus Christ.

God of all peoples, your arms reach out to embrace everyone who calls upon you. As we gather on this day, teach us to love the world with compassion and steadfast care. Make our hearts and your church a house of prayer for all nations. Grant us the grace to walk in justice, hold fast to your merciful promises, and bring your peace to a troubled world. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the world you have made. We confess that we grow fearful in the midst of the storms. We thank you for your continuing presence with us. Thank you for the people of our congregation and for this time to study your word together. Thank you for your disciple Simon Peter who shows us that we, too may be faithful disciples, in spite of our flaws. Guide and bless our time together. Help us to remember that you are always with us through the storms we face. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

God of infinite possibilities, we gather before you, holding out on hope. We confess the times we have given in to despair. Discouraged by incremental change, our labor often feels like failure. Trading true peace for relief, we give up and give in. Help us, Lord, rest in your love that we might renew our courage, restore our hope, and invigorate our spirits to do the good that is ours to do. Amen.

Father, thank You for grace and a week full of promise. Lead us in Your ways and fill our hearts with your love and grace. Help us to see others as You see them. Father, We ask that You guide every decision, response, effort and conversation we have, all for Your glory. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
