In every congregation, there are those who once sat together with us in the pews, but have since been lost to error or sin. Those who used to be Christian may constitute a number larger than those who are currently Christian. It is one thing to lament this and criticize from the sidelines. It is quite another to warn the wicked.

Though some might assume that the chief purpose of church discipline is to condemn the sins and errors of others, our Lord reminds us that discipline is an act of love that seeks to restore the fallen.

The time of changing seasons is a good time to begin an outdoor regimen of walking for personal wellness. Experts in the fields of fitness have documented that going for a walk outdoors can bring a sense of physical betterment and mental calmness to those who engage in it on a regular basis.

In the Scriptures, there are numerous passages that underscore the value of spiritual walking for the Christian as well. Paul writes to the Galatians, “But I say, walk by the Spirit“, and he reminds the believers in Christ at Corinth that “We walk by faith, not by sight“ (2 Corinthians 5:7).

Hymn writers give poetic expression to that special walking in texts like “Let us ever walk with Jesus” and “I want to walk as a child of the light“.

May we be blessed by our walking through the Divine service together this day!

The word doxology encompasses words of praise that are addressed to the triune God. It comes to the Greek word, Doxa, which is used in the New Testament to express the splendor of God, and also serves to describe the pouring of honor and praise to God from his faithful people. When we sing or say “Glory be to God on high,“ we are joining the praises spoken by the angels of God in eternity: “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and Thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever ever! Amen” (Revelation 7:12). Such an honor it is for us to join in that praise !

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow,
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise him above, ye heavenly host:
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Amen.

Stand up! stand up for Jesus!
Ye soldiers of the cross;
Lift high His royal banner,
It must not suffer loss:
From vict’ry unto vict’ry
His army shall He lead,
Till every foe is vanquished
And Christ is Lord indeed.

Stand up for Jesus
Ye soldiers of the cross;
Lift high His royal banner,
It must not, it must not suffer loss.

Stand up! stand up for Jesus!
The trumpet call obey;
Forth to the mighty conflict
In this His glorious day.
Ye that are men, now serve Him
Against unnumbered foes;
Let courage rise with danger.
And strength to strength oppose.

Stand up! stand up for Jesus!
Stand in His strength alone;
The arm of flesh will fail you;
Ye dare not trust your own.
Put on the Gospel armor,
And, watching unto prayer,
Where duty calls, or danger,
Be never wanting there.

Stand up! stand up for Jesus!
The strife will not be long:
This day the noise of battle,
The next the victor’s song;
To him that overcometh
A crown of life shall be;
He, with the King of glory,
Shall reign eternally.

Stand up for Jesus
Ye soldiers of the cross;
Lift high His royal banner,
It must not, it must not suffer loss.
