Providence Presbyterian Church Providence Presbyterian Church
is a historic Presbyterian church in Gum Spring,
Louisa County, VA

Providence Presbyterian Church is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A). Founded in 1747, our sanctuary is the oldest PCUSA place of worship in continual use in the state of Virginia. Our relaxed, small church with a big heart worships every Sunday at 11 am. All are invited to join us for services, and to stay for fellowship time and hearty snacks afterwards. There are children's bulletins, books and a playground for little ones--who are always welcome!

Join us for worship at 11 am this Sunday as we welcome Rev. Roger Gench to our pulpit!

Rev. Gench is currently an Adjunct Professor at Union Presbyterian Seminary and frequent guest preacher in our Presbytery. He will preach on the Road to Emmaus resurrection appearance in Luke; his sermon title is "Where's Emmaus?"

Roger J. Gench retired in 2019 from seventeen years of service as the senior pastor of The New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington DC. He also served for twelve years as the senior pastor of Brown Memorial Park Avenue Presbyterian Church in Baltimore, Maryland. All are welcome to our Maundy Thursday Tenebrae service:
April 2 at 7 pm.

"Tenebrae" means "shadows." The service, based on 12th century traditions, includes the gradual extinguishing of candles as Gospel readings, prayers and hymns centered on the shadows of the betrayal of Christ are offered.
We depart the service just after the sun sets, trusting in the enduring light of Christ and anticipating the joy of Easter.

We hope you will join us!

Blessed is the One
who comes to us
by the way of love
poured out with abandon.
Blessed is the One
who walks toward us
by the way of grace
that holds us fast.
Blessed is the One
who calls us to follow
in the way of blessing,
in the path of joy.

To mark the beginning of the Lenten season, all are welcome to:

Ashes and Prayers
Wednesday, February 18
Any time between 12:30 - 1:30 pm

Come by the sanctuary for the imposition of ashes and a personal prayer with the pastor; stay if you like for quiet contemplation.

As Jan Richardson says:
This is the moment we ask for the blessing
that lives within the ancient ashes,
that makes its home inside the soil of the sacred earth.
