One of the best!

Ruby Slade, 85, of Greenville, MS, passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord on Saturday, May 30, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, and love for her family and community. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2026, at Emmanuel Baptist Church. There will be a visitation from 12:00 p.m. until the service time. Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.

A devoted servant of her community, Ruby made history as the first woman elected to serve on the Board of Trustees for the Western School Line School District. She dedicated 38 years to the board, helping shape the education and future of countless students and families. Alongside her husband, Gene, she faithfully helped operate Gene's Saw Shop for 42 years, from 1967 until 2009.

Ruby's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was the oldest standing member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she served for many years as a Sunday School teacher. She was known for her unwavering commitment to prayer, faithfully writing down and remembering prayer requests for others. Her love for Jesus was evident in every aspect of her life.

Those who knew Ruby will remember her warm smile, kind heart, and steadfast faith. She found joy in serving others, encouraging those around her, and sharing God's love. Her life was a testimony to grace, compassion, and dedication to her family, church, and community.

Ruby leaves behind a legacy of faith that will continue through the generations of family and friends she touched. Though she will be deeply missed, her loved ones take comfort in knowing she is now reunited with her Savior and those who have gone before her.

Ruby was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gene Slade; her daughter, Wanda; her father and mother, Virgle and Lexie Swindle; and her siblings, Clovis, Rayford, James “Buck,” and Francis. She is survived by her children, Malcolm (Anita) Slade, Guy (Melissa) Slade, and Laura (Lloyd) Rawson. She was a proud grandmother to Ashley, Amber, Alexis, Hope, Erin, Kristen, Beth, and LeeAnn, and was blessed with 12 great-grandchildren who brought her tremendous joy. She is also survived by her sister, Zelma, her only living sibling.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

This Saturday at 9:30am we will be doing our event “The Final Frame”. Come out and see a “live” wreck scene and watch the process of emergency responders from start to finish. This event is to show the effects of distracted driving and how fast life can change. It was designed with teen drivers in mind but It is GREAT for anyone because we are all so quick to pick up our phone, look at facebook, have “one drink”. We will also have a car ejection simulator with Mississippi Highway Patrol, Troop D Greenwood District II showing what a seatbelt will do.

We will have law enforcement responding, firemen cutting cars, helicopters landing, coroners coming, and EMS showing you the truth.

Class is free and you’ll leave with a glass breaker, wallet and arm band. Help me get the word out!

Our school year officially ended last night with laughs, kickball, snow cones, and a race for a scavenger hunt. Over the course of this year we have watched your kids grow, not just in height, but in Christ and the love that He has for them. We have seen them cry and seen them smile. We’ve held them on bad days and cheered for them on the good. These kids are more than faces in a crowd or names on a roll sheet. They’re ours and we love them.

As we pause our bus ministry for the summer we would encourage you to still bring them so we can continue to walk with them and show them Christ. This pause will allow volunteers to get a much-deserved break but We will continue our services in two weeks on June 3rd! We will hold services each Wednesday from 5:45-7:45. Please remember you will need to drop off and pick up your child/children for the summer

To the parents who have trusted us with their kids, we here at Emmanuel Baptist thank you. We thank you for letting us be a part of shaping such amazing lives while being shaped in the process. We started this year in Genesis and ended in the gospels teaching them that Christ is the “scarlet thread” that runs through the whole of scripture. Not only is He THE scarlet thread, He is also ours. Our hope, Our peace, our joy, and our true identity all meet in Him who died for us! He is our Salvation! Until next school year, or hopefully for most, June 3rd.

They aren’t just kids, they’re our kids.
