In middle school, a guidance counselor told me it would be better if I went into the military because I was “not college material.” For years, those words convinced me that I wasn’t smart.

Then I met my wife. She rejected those words and encouraged me to go to Bible college and pursue the Lord’s calling on my life. I embraced her words, and now you are reading my musings.

Words are rarely neutral. Encourage someone today with your words.

I love to spend time at sea. In the early morning hours, while it is still dark, I’ll go up on deck to pray and spend time with the Lord. Whenever I look out into the blackness of the ocean around me, there will inevitably be a light. Sometimes, just a single dot of light breaks the darkness.

Jesus said that’s a trait of a believer in Him. As the world grows even darker, we are to be that spot of light.
