" GOD'S UNCHANGING WORD"

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching,
rebuking, correcting and training in
righteousess.

2 TIMOTHY 3:16 NIV

Early in my life I had some doubts about whether or not the Bible was
really God's Word. But one night in 1949, I knelt before a stump in the woods
of Forest Home, California, opened my Bible, and said, "O God, there are
many things in this book I do not understand. But by faith I accept it-from
Genesis to Revelation-as Your Word."

By God's grace that settled the issue for me once and for all. From that
moment on, I have never had a single doubt that the Bible is God's Word. When
I quote Scripture, I know I am quoting the very Word of God.

This confidence in God's Word not only gives authority to one's ministry;
it provides a solid foundation for one's life. We who trust in God's Word aren't
living according to what someone says about the Bible or some human
philosophy. We are basing our faith, our ministry, even our life itself on God's
unchanging Word. Is God's Word the foundation of your life?

"LIVING A PEACEABLE LIFE"

Lead a quiet and peaceable life in all
godliness and reverence.

1 TIMOTHY 2:2

As Christians, we aren't to isolate ourselves from the world in which
we live. We are part of society, and we share in its difficulties, problems,
and hopes.

The Bible has much to say about our social responsibility. The Old Test-
ament prophets condemned those who ignored the poor and exploited the
weak. Not that it is easy. As Christians, we know human society is affected
by sin, and any effort to improve society will always be incomplete and
imperfect. We will never build a Utopia on Earth.

But we must do all we can to alleviate suffering and to strike at the root
causes of injustice, racial prejudice, hunger, and violence. We are to work for
a peaceable life and human dignity for others. Why? Because God loves this suffering world. Jesus saw the crowds and "was moved with compassion"
(Matthew 9:36).

Christ is concerned about the whole person-including the society in which
that person lives. Do we share His concern?

"AMBASSADORS UNDER AUTHORITY"

We are ambassadors for Christ, as though God
were pleading through us.

2 CORINTHIANS 5:20

What is an ambassador? He is a representative and servant of his
government in a foreign land. He is not free to set his own policies or deve-
lop his own message, but must carry out the will of the government he
represents. In other words, he is a person under authority.

In the same way, we are called to live under the authority of Jesus Christ
and the authority of the Scriptures. We are servants. We must live under the
authority of the Word of God. We are called not to do our will, but Christ's.

The world today is looking for holy men and women who live under the
authority of the Word of God. Unbelievers will not listen to what we say unless
we back it up with the way we live. Are you faithful ambassador for Christ to
those around you?

"ONE MORE TIME!"

"(My word)will not return to Me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it."

ISAIAH 55:11 NIV

I remember hearing a professor say that during His Earthly ministry, Jesus
probably repeated Himself more than five hundred times.

During college I had a professor who deliberately repeated himself three times.
He said that the people in the first two or three rows will get the message the
first time. The second time the people in the middle of the lecture hall will get it.
The third time the people in the back will get it. And the ones in the front row will
never forget it.

We need to keep that fact of human nature in the mind as we share God's love
with the people He puts in our path. We need to repeat ourselves-to repeat our
acts of service, our deeds of love, and, yes, our words of truth. The Bible says,
"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a
harvest if we do not give up" (Galatians 6:9 NIV)

Let us saturate ourselves in the Word of God and in prayer. Then we will be equipped to share His truth- and to repeat it again and again!

A STEP IN THE PROCESS

Blessed is the man whom you instruct, O Lord.

PSALM 94:12

A child develops muscles through exercise. Only when our muscles
encounter resistance do they become stronger.

In the same way, the Bible tells us that we only become stronger
spiritually through exercise-through using our spiritual muscles to meet
the challenges of life. This is specially true when we face suffering and
affliction, for they are one way God makes us strong. One reason God
allows suffering to come to His people, the Bible says, is to discipline,
chasten, and mold us.

In the last essay he wrote before he died, the great Christian writer C.
S. Lewis said, "We have no right to happiness; only an obligation to do our
duty." Sometimes our God-given duty will include suffering. When it does,
ask God to teach you through it. Remember the psalmist's words I quoted
above: "Blessed is the man whom You instruct, O Lord."

HISTORY- CHANGING PRAYER

(Hezekiah prayed,) "O Lord our God, deliver us from (the enemy's) hand,
so that all kingdoms on earth may know that you alone, O Lord, are God."...
That night the angel of the Lord went out and put to death a hundred and
eighty-five thousand men in the Assyrian camp.

2 KINGS 19:19, 35 NIV

As someone has said, "Prayer is the highest use to which speech can be put."
But today we often regard prayer as merely an honored tradition or a polite
formality. But prayer-sincere, believing prayer-is so much more.

Cover to cover, the Bible tells of people whose prayers turned the tide of
history. Hezekiah prayed, and God spared his nation when the Assyrians
attacked. Elijah prayed, and God send fire to confound the false prophets. Elisha
prayed, and the son of the Shunamite woman was raised from the dead. Jesus
prayed, and Lazarus came forth from the tomb. Paul prayed, and new churches
were born. The early church prayed, and Peter was delivered from prison.

We can change the course of events if we go to our knees in believing prayer. What will you pray about tonight?

IN THE PRESENCE OF CHRIST

The upright shall dwell in your presence

PSALM 140:13

What would you do if you were about to meet the Queen of England?
I'm sure you would go out of your way to dress correctly and to be properly
briefed so you didn't say the wrong thing or act in an improper way.

Someday, you and I will meet a far greater Sovereign: the King of the
universe. His dazzling glory far exceeds that of any Earthly monarch, and
in His presence we can only bow in humble worship and praise. Our cry will
be that of Revelation: "You are worthy, O Lord to receive glory and honor
and power" (4:11).

Are you prepared for that day when you will meet the King of kings face-
to-face? No one knows the day or the hour when life will end. The time for
you to prepare is now, by committing your life to Christ and beginning to live
as a child of the King.
