At the NCJCC we honor the Jewish tradition of Tikkun Olam by conducting social action campaigns. We just launched two new campaigns that will run until Thanksgiving.

First, we have an online only campaign supporting the lifesaving work of Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)! We are raising funds and awareness to support Doctors Without Borders's response to emergencies around the world, such as the devastating floods in Nepal. Your donation will be put to work immediately to deliver urgent medical care such as treatment for acute malnutrition, emergency surgery, maternal care, and lifesaving vaccinations. Every little bit helps and is greatly appreciated! (And it's tax-deductible!)

Second, we are collecting donations of food , especially pantry staples, for the Interfaith Food Ministry (IFM). IFM fights food insecurity in Nevada County, providing nutritious ​groceries to thousands. With volunteers, donors, and partners, they distribute almost two million pounds of food annually, building community and ensuring no one goes hungry. September is Hunger Action Month - let's do our part to help people who need food in our community! See the attached flyer for items IFM particularly needs, and bring your donations to any service or gathering at the NCJCC now through Thanksgiving.

THANK YOU RABBI DAVID!! ♥️

For forty years as a Rabbi and now 10 years with us, Rabbi David Azen has guided the Nevada County Jewish Community Center and Congregation B’nai Harim with spiritual depth, through prayer, music, learning, justice, and community. His rabbinate has shaped the NCJCC into far more than a synagogue. We have become a community alive with song, rooted in Torah, animated by moral responsibility, and committed to the dignity of every human being.

There is no single way to thank a Rabbi whose presence has touched so many lives so differently. But there is something we can do together: gather, learn, sing, remember, and invest in the future he helped build.

We hope you will join us in thanking Rabbi David for all of his contributions.

NCJCC Facilities Upgrade Campaign: A Year of Extraordinary Generosity

Thank you — we reached our first major facilities fundraising milestone together!

Over the past year, our community has stepped up in remarkable ways to care for and improve our shared home. Thanks to your generosity, we met — and exceeded — our first facilities fundraising goal.

This summer we installed new flooring in the sanctuary, Rabbi’s office, library, preschool room, and middle hallway. These upgrades made our most‑used spaces more modern, vibrant, and welcoming.

We also made the front bathroom more ADA compliant, including new handrails and an accessible sink, ensuring our building is safer and more inclusive for everyone.

And in a beautiful surprise, we received a very generous donation of a new play structure and playhouse for the backyard. These were installed in time for the first family Shabbat in August, giving all the children of the NCJCC community a joyful, safe space to play and connect.

None of this would have been possible without you. We are truly blown away by the commitment, care, and generosity shown by our members and friends over the past year.

What’s next:
We paused active fundraising for the summer as we completed these upgrades. Our next facilities campaign will launch during the upcoming High Holydays, when we will share our new goals and vision for the year ahead. For now, we simply want to say: thank you. You have strengthened our Center in ways that will benefit our entire community for years to come.

Our High Holiday campaign this year will include two social action fundraisers

Please join us Saturday, September 26th, 5:30 PM for an intimate heartfelt evening with astounding local musicians performing Being & Becoming – Songs that Shine Brightly featuring popular and original music drawn from Paul Godwin's creative journey over the decades.

Presented by Congregation B'nai Harim at the NCJCC, in Grass Valley, CA, in partnership with Myrtle Tree Arts, this outdoor evening concert celebrates the fall harvest festival of Sukkot and honors Paul's love of song, life and community. Featured musicians include stars of Nevada City, music director Anni McCann, Elena Rayo, Jay Tausig, and Rob Holland, and talent hailing from Placerville, Dustin Koupal, Elena DeLacy, and Alex Porte of Hither & Yon. Special appearance by Reb David Azen and the voice of Paul Godwin.

Seating is limited, get your tickets now on the NCJCC website, $25 per person. Admission includes homemade vegetarian foods. B**r, w**e, soft drinks by donation. Potluck veg sides and desserts welcome.

We want to thank all amazing Corner Deli Booth Volunteers at the Nevada County Fair!!

We could not do this without all the support of our Fair Committee.

We had so many people come out to work a shift, from early morning to late nights! This event does not happen without the support of our community. Thank you to everyone who made it out to help or even stop by for a wonderful meal or drink. We appreciate all the support!
