Several ROL people have gotten text messages, supposedly from pastors, asking for gift cards for a charitable purpose. We did not send them, nor would we ever ask for gift cards in this way.

This is, unfortunately, a common scam aimed at church goers. The scammer pretends to be their pastor and asks for gift cards to support some good purpose. As Jesus says, ““be wise as serpents and innocent as doves”(Matthew 10:16 NRSV). Some tips for avoiding such scams:

-never respond back directly to the text or message. Always use another way to contact your pastor to ask about it. These text messages will often say the pastor is in a meeting, or in some other way unavailable. This is by design, to discourage you from trying to make contact in another way. Don’t fall for it. Reach out and ask.

-pay attention to the phone number or email. It typically won’t be your pastor’s phone number or email. Emails may include the pastor’s name, but that doesn’t mean it is their email address.

-know that the pastors won’t ask for gift cards in this way. the very fact that they make such a request practically guarantees it is a scam.

We are honored to welcome our newest addition to the River of Life Staff. Sundi Workman will be joining us as the new Communications & Support Coordinator. Sundi and her family (Husband-Ray, Sons- Bradley and Brayden) have been attending ROL since 2022. They serve in various places including Connect Ministry and Worship Team.

Sundi will be working in the office Monday-Thursday from 8:30am-1:00pm. Next time you see her around the church, make sure she knows how excited we are to have her! :)

Praise the Lord for new life! We celebrated baptisms this past Sunday and the transformational power of our Lord Jesus Christ in the life of a believer. Baptism is an outward expression of an inward heart change, and it is always cause for celebration. What a beautiful Sunday! 🙌
