This Thursday evening at sundown begins the ancient Jewish festival of Shavuot. In the Christian church we know of this holiday as Pentecost, which we will celebrate this Sunday.

Historically, believers have read the book of Ruth during the festival of Shavuot, a book that shows God's love and care for the Gentiles. On the Pentecost after Christ's Ascension, God once again showed his love to Gentile believers by sending upon them his Holy Spirit, and the church was born! You are welcome to lead your family in Shavuot readings this week:
