What We Believe

With the universal Christian Church, Messiah Lutheran Church teaches and responds to the love of the Triune God: the Father, creator of all that exists; Jesus Christ, the Son, who became human to suffer and die for the sins of all human beings and to rise to life again in the ultimate victory over death and Satan; and the Holy Spirit, who creates faith through God’s Word and Sacra

ments. The three persons of the Trinity are coequal and coeternal, one God. Being “Lutheran,” our congregation accepts and teaches the Bible-based teachings of Martin Luther that inspired the reformation of the Christian Church in the 16th century. The teaching of Luther and the reformers can be summarized in three short phrases: Grace alone, Scripture alone, Faith alone.
• Scripture Alone – The Bible is God’s inerrant and infallible Word, in which He reveals His Law and His Gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ. It is the sole rule and norm for Christian doctrine.
• Grace Alone – God loves the people of the world, even though they are sinful, rebel against Him and do not deserve His love. He sent Jesus, His Son, to love the unlovable and save the ungodly.
• Faith Alone – By His suffering and death as the substitute for all people of all time, Jesus purchased and won forgiveness and eternal life for them. Those who hear this Good News and believe it have the eternal life that it offers. God creates faith in Christ and gives people forgiveness through Him. Messiah Lutheran Church is a member of The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod. The word “Synod” comes from the Greek words that mean “walking together”. It has rich meaning in our church body, because the congregations voluntarily choose to belong to the Synod. Diverse in their service, these congregations hold to a shared confession of Jesus Christ as taught in Holy Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions.

In Isaiah 6, the prophet cried, “Woe is me!” when he stood before the LORD. Sinners cannot stand before a holy God and live, but the Holy Trinity reveals Himself to sinners to save us, not destroy us.

There is only one God, yet the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit each do what only God can do: create, redeem, and sanctify. The Father gave His Son, Jesus Christ, to be lifted up on the cross for us. Through water and the Spirit, we are reborn, and our eyes are opened to see the Father through the Son.

Through the Word of Absolution and the Body and Blood of the Son, God declares: “Your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.” It is all just as Jesus promised: “The Spirit gives life… The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life” (John 6:63).

Join us this Sunday as we celebrate Trinity Sunday, the first festival of the ordinary time of the Church Year, and join the angels in song:

“Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!”

Start of summer at Messiah means choir break… and piano maintenance season! 🎹

Our wonderful Steinway is currently receiving some well-deserved care and regulation work so that it will be ready for our upcoming Morgenchor Formation Intensive and ongoing Faith & Fugue Recital Series. With the keys and action removed, the piano looks a little unusual at the moment!

Join us this evening at 7 PM for the Feast of the Ascension of Our Lord.

Tonight's service will include the Examination of Catechumens. An Ice Cream social will follow this evening's service.

The Ascension is not Jesus' absence. He fills all things, and sends us forth with His Word and Sacraments until He comes again in glory.

Please invite a friend, neighbor, or family member and join us for an evening organ recital that presents the instrument beyond its usual role in Sunday worship. This program traces a musical arc from the concert halls of the late 1800s to some of the greatest advancements of organ music in the church featuring works by Mendelssohn, Franck, and Guilmant.

While elements of this repertoire may be heard week to week at Messiah, this recital brings them together on a larger scale with extended forms, greater contrast, and a more complete musical narrative. These are not preludes or postludes that we typically hear as background music but full works intended for meaningful listening. I'm certain that you will enjoy it very much!
