09.06.2026 Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost Home Homily and Recording

This week, the disciples are trying to discover who’s who among the disciples. They’ve clearly identified Jesus as Lord, but want to know the pecking order that follows.
The idea that we’re better than others is rooted in our Adam-natural state and is of human construct. We’re equally sinners against the perfect holiness of our Lord.

It’s a good thing God loves us and uses His holy Word and Sacraments to draw us near. Jesus is always the answer, and we follow where and when He leads.
God provides for those who would never be mistaken for great, yet makes us great as His children in Christ.

We played ‘follow the leader’ growing up and created obstacles to drop followers from the lead, last one standing was the winner. Jesus says “Follow me” and does the work to overcome the obstacles we face in the broken world.
He doesn’t promise a care-free ride, in fact assures us there will be challenges, pain, and suffering in the world and we trust Him for eternal peace in salvation.

Answering that tug at your heart with ‘You Only Live Once’ (YOLO) and worse, with ‘Fear Of Missing Out’ (FOMO) in the world is NOT the answer. Jesus is the answer, and we follow Him.
Just as Jesus was raised from the dead, we live in the certain hope that we too will share in His resurrection and eternal life.

Conformity to the world is expected in the world - therein lies danger. Cultural norms and legalities defy the will of God in the world.

The siren call of worldly power, possessions, and satisfaction continues to yell in our ear, tempting us to conform to the evil of the world, in its many deviations - though singular in its purpose to create distance between us and God. God desires you and draws you into His presence - Christ fills our deepest need by forgiving our sins and reconciling us to God.

Wooowee! The best Christmas present ever had nothing to do with presents under the tree. And everything to do with the baby, wrapped not in Christmas paper, but swaddling cloths.

As we unwrap that present, we discover the gifts of faith and belief as Jesus reconciles us to God through the means of grace.
He desires and draws us into His presence - we are bound as brothers and sisters in Christ. One identity, we share in one Lord, one faith, one Baptism, and one Gospel in Christ.

08.09.2026 Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost Home Homily and Recording

Join us, if you are able, August 16th for a Christmas and Easter celebration service marking the mid-point between Easter and Christmas this year.
We’ll sing familiar hymns and enjoy fellowship, strengthening and encouraging one another.

This week, we discover that splashes of hot water make no more a good cup of coffee than splashes of Christianity when we put God in a box.
He desires and draws us into His presence - we are born again in the waters of Baptism; God immerses you in His Word and Sacraments to be forgiven by His grace and mercy in what He commands.

We grow, like Paul, to desire sharing other’s pain. From persecutor to promoter, hunter to missionary.
We are like helpless, hidden Kildeer bird eggs in the field, entirely incapable of saving ourselves from the crushing weight of the Law, sin, and death.
Unlike Kildeer who just spread their wings to warn danger away; Jesus stretched out His arms on the cross to absorb the full strike of God's wrath in our place.

07.26.2026 Ninth Sunday after Pentecost Home Homily and Recording

It isn’t all about us in the world, though we might like it to be. Too many compete to become self-sufficient, ‘I got this’ are the three most dangerous words ever!
Adam and Eve sought self-sufficiency, it was no longer enough to trust God for all they needed and needed to know. You are the treasure Jesus suffered for.

Jesus Christ, being true God and true man, humbled Himself unto death on the cross to redeem us from all sins, from death, and from the power of the devil. Remember, God loves you.

God is a jealous God and we’re in for a treat with the Holy Spirit who knows the depth of God and intercedes for us! The enemy will sow seeds of doubt, disruption, and divide in your midst. There are no brownie points to earn salvation. When we try to resolve our own salvation, we undermine the completed work of Christ, creating a work arrangement in place of God’s free gift paid by Jesus.

Remember, God loves you. The great exchange took place on the Cross of Christ.

07.12.2026 Seventh Sunday after Pentecost Home Homily and Recording

Children of God, heirs with Christ, no longer slaves to sin for we live by the Holy Spirit. We are adopted as sons of God, and by the Spirit we cry, Father!
Depravity is the sin-fracturing of every part of human nature, our will, our thoughts, and our desires. No matter the number of times we’ve heard God’s love for us or the admonishment of sin, we want to respond,
“I Know” to cast aside the discussion, but God through the work of the Spirit reminds us, “God Knows!” and persists for our benefit.

Remember, God loves you. The Cross of Christ exists to shred our hubris and draw us near to our Lord and Savior.

06.28.26 Fifth Sunday after Pentecost Home Homily and Recording

Happy 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and abundant blessings for a safe 4th of July next Saturday.

Are we in control … or is God? It’s a question we should ask ourselves daily. It’s intended for us to look deep inside to see whether we’re willing to give our lives over to God, the Lord whose name is Jealous.
Jesus said he did not come to bring peace, but a sword. That sword unites His Church, strengthening His kingdom as the church witnesses for His glory.

Remember, God loves you. The Cross of Christ exists to shred our hubris and draw us near to our Lord and Savior.
